L4D 'Crash Course' Campaign is now out

Postby Blink on Tue Sep 29, 2009 6:18 pm

Here's the blurb:

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced that Crash Course -- the second downloadable content (DLC) update for its zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D) -- is available now for Xbox 360 and PC. To celebrate, Left 4 Dead (PC) is available via Steam for 50% off its regular its regular price thru Oct 1.

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay

I'm off to try it out!

Dear Steam,
You seem to be stuck on "1 second remaining". I hate you.

very nice campaign. some great level design, and a bit more unlinear then the previous campaigns. longer then i expected too. The escape van was pretty funny too.

Is it good enough to justify re-installing l4d?

Had a lot of fun playing this, the maps seemed to be as long as two No Mercy maps strung together and as Spas said had a lot of extra places to explore which I liked.

Kind of disappointing with the ending cinematic, they could have done a lot of cool stuff with that truck! It could have driven off and raped a tank or something instead of just cutting out right before hitting a fence. Also the music didn't start until the credits were rolling which takes away from the cinematic feeling the other campaign ends had.

Shows that people should stop fucking whining about it being two maps when they haven't played it yet. They could have split it up into 4 maps probably, maybe even 5, but by doing it in two it quickens the Versus playtime by not having load times and such.

I thinks it was alot of fun too, didn't take a long time to download either.
In my opinion it was kinda different than the other campaigns, in a positive way, and its good to see that they aren't just focusing on L4D2. :P

This took me by surprise, I thought a two map campaign would be kinda pitiful on its own, and that the update wasn't that big. But the maps are actually pretty large for l4d, and the way they are designed gives multiple ways to play it, not just "the fast way" many players have used for the previous campaign levels. I hope this is how L4d2s levels play out, as this is surely a taste of things to come. Also note that new voice acting has been done for this update which is absolutely hilarious, so many references only certain people will get, and Francis has a thing about giving

, who killed the zombie-pilot a really hard time.

Didn't notice she killed the helicopter pilot, might have different starting things. I wish they had shown the crash though, would have been cool but I guess kind of hard to show a helicopter crashing with all 4 of them alive after.

This is the only continuing campaign...that was pretty refreshing that they added some story in there.
I played it on advanced with three of my buddies and the first map was a blast excluding a weird bug where almost randomly various music and sound commentarys would play.
This might be because the last maps I played were the commentarys.
However the difference in difficulty between Normal and Advanced at the end was obscene.
We tried, I think it was four times after starting the generator to finish, and something like another four just to get to the generator, but in normal mode we cleaned the place out with only two med kits used.

Haven't played versus yet. Looks a little overgeared for infected.
We are not but a parade of crystalline machines, performing as programmed.

I didn't think it was that hard on Advanced, me and a friend did it with two bots on our first try.

I'd love this on PC. I assume living in Australia means I can still purchase it for the sale price tomorrow morning, October 1st here. I have no money in the bank at the moment, but I will in the morning.
