Jailbreak- King of the Hill Gameplay

Postby Wills on Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:19 pm

The next version of Jailbreak: Source is due for release in just a few weeks time now, so the team are kicking off the media blitz with a video showcasing gameplay footage from one of the two new gamemodes, King of the Hill Jailbreak.

Jailbreak: Source is a total conversion for the Orange Box engine, check out more media on their ModDB page.

I think i've played too much FPS games in all my years - There isnt anything unique about this mod, typic HL2 gameplay which I entirely hate because HL2:DM sucks ass for a FPS game. But hey that's just me.

The doesn't look bad and the models are great.

But it's not something I'd play (Also this is a critique of my viewpoint)

O_o

Typical HL2 gameplay? Quite the knee-jerk response for a mod you've never actually played. 'Cos everyone knows that HL2:DM has gamemodes and jails...

This mod now reminds me of Unreal Tournament a lot.

Well, where i can respect your opinion that it might not be for you (Arcade style TDM isn't everyone's cup of tea), instantly branding it as nothing unique, and typical HL2 just makes you seem ignorant. Thanks for your comment though

Unreal, is a source of inspiration in our mapping style, so it's no surprise.

As the news points out, JB:S is finally only a few weeks away from release, and features 12 unique map locations, all of which have been meticulously balanced, 3 game modes (including standard Jailbreak, Deathball and KotH) 14 weapons, perks (to create custom player classes on the fly) and more ... oh and if nothing else you can shoot a Dinosaur in the face as a Robot overlord.

Hope to see some of you in the servers come release day! :)

I don't much like the animations for the weapons they feel kinda weak and also I would like to see you guys move away from the default game movement code. But other than that it looks nice and plays fairly well if you get a good game. Will have to check out the new game-modes.

I'd love to do this, I particularly like the player movement in Stalker (but I suspect in a fast paced multiplayer it might cause motion sickness) and I also like what the BMS guys have done.

This is down to our coder though, and he's very strict about what goes in and what doesn't.

I used to love Q2 jailbreak and I really liked JB:Source when it first came out, but the dinosaurs and robots and bright colours and overuse of lightflares turns me off a bit, I must admit. I find all that a bit of a distraction in UT and Alien Arena.

Wait 'till I get Warfare mode working :P
Jailbreak mapping is very flexible; it's all done with map logic entities - no coding in sight! (You can literally transplant our KOTH system directly into HL2:DM if you want, though there'd be no real victory for holding the hill, just a score bonus)

Really, all we're missing right now are vehicles. *Runs away from Dogmeat*

The only thing that strikes me as an easily fixed annoyance are some of the animations (especially the crowbar replacement) and a few of the models (again the crowbar replacement is a bit lacking). Other than that I think this will be insanely fun, and I applaud this team for actually producing a full conversion that doesn't look boring.

I enjoyed this game for some time back a while, but the only thing that put me off is the weapon animations and some of the sounds that still is too much like the original HL2 (Explosions).
