Idk, I think the level design isn't "bad" in terms of visuals, but every game of l4d2 I've played it has one player new to the campaign saying "where the hell are we supposed to go?" which was never the case with the older one because the levels were more linear. I would say that it is more a problem with the change of their level design than it being "poor" level design, seeing as they design the levels the way the intend the game to be played.

I mentioned all that before, just want to clarify how people really feel about the l4d2 campaigns. Scavenge mode is still sick.

I think it's great, L4D2 is simply more. I have yet to play scavenge or versus yet, but I beat all the campaigns. L4D2 is less "serious" than L4D1, meaning I have more fun, if you don't like it oh well. Here's why I would say I think it's better than L4D1:

Each campaign has a very distinct environment with different lighting and atmosphere. Hard rain is probably the "scariest" of all the campaigns. Each campaign runs differently and has much more crescendo moments. There are also little minigames in each, and honestly I would've never expected to be doing the things I was in Dark Carnival, very fun.

More special infected, you love to hate them. More is better, though the spitter can be rather annoying at times. Also the uncommon common infected are great to mix things things up, the mudman also being pretty annoying. I was playing L4D1 and I missed the charger running up on people.

Less linear gameplay (especially in Hard Rain). They made much more and larger dead ends and various places to go. They even implemented dynamic changing paths, such as the cemetery. So for the people saying "nobody had any idea where we were supposed to go," for one it was your first time playing, and also it's a freaking zombie apocalypse I think valve wants you to say that.

More weapons, melee weapons, bile bombs, flaming/explosive ammo, laser sights. People are complaining about the ammo taking up your health pack, that's why you deploy the ammo, pick up your health pack/defib, and take the ammo.

Dynamic weather, I honestly only saw this in Hard Rain. I was expecting it to rain in The Parish or something, never happened but maybe I haven't played enough yet.

They really upped the difficulty, and have a much more random director. Things seem really out of place sometimes, like a guitar or katana in the bathroom. There's also realism mode, and scavenge mode, good stuff.

The gore really makes the game for me. Seeing limbs fly off when you shoot them with powerful weapons, their guts falling out, it's just wonderful.

Favorites: Dark Carnival, Hard Rain. Ellis. Charger. Laser sights.
Dislikes: Swamp Fever. Rochelle. Spitter. Mudmen. No more miniguns.

I was really shocked, never happened to me but on survival. It's like:

*First tank punches me down from the balcony*
*Second Tank hits me in the back*
"Fuck that's a fast ta- *First tank closing in* FUCK!"

Personally, l4d2 is much better than l4d1 ever was, and I loved the original. Sure it might not be scary, but neither was the first game, however the game is much more tense than the first, especially Hard Rain and The Parish's finale. Plus, now there are three types of finales: classic, scavenge, and gauntlet. And as for the square corridors talked about before, the levels in l4d2 are much longer and still more detailed than the original, I wouldn't be surprised if they were near to the max brush limit in a few of them. And I like the .50 cal better than the minigun, it's more accurate, powerful, and it rips zombies to shreds, literally.

But just a note, look at your list of achievements, and then find "Still something to prove" or something like that. The numbers are strange, wouldn't you say?
Highlight to read:
Bonus/secret campaign maybe? Unlocked after beating the others on expert, where you reunite with the l4d survivors, or at least zombified versions of them, and you finally get to fight the stockcar racer in his zombie form, plus every member of Midnight Riders, and finally you get to fight the Patriarch, whose life is simpler now thanks to his rocket launcher arm.

It does say 6, after all.

I've had one hell of a time, great game. I think that in l4d1, the main enemy was the special infected, which has now, in l4d2, shifted to the horde. Now, at least in my opinion, the SI are basically the things that mess up your defense against the horde, which is much better in my opinion, since there are so many, they should be the main threat. Also, common are stronger now, i remember in l4d1, at any difficulty if you aimed for the head arms or legs it was pretty much a point and click action game, now we can shoot off limbs and headshots aren't easy to get every time.

One more thing, killing zombies is so much more satisfying... so many juicy parts...

I think it was worth the money I pre-ordered it for. The first campaign felt kinda bland in the visuals, but made up for it in stellar game play. The whole way you play shifted too. Before you'd have to be really careful of what materials you used, but now you sort of use it when you think it'd be cool.

If I just played through once with my 3 friends and never played it again, I'd still say it'd be worth the price. The way I see it is: 5 movies ($10 each). I noticed that I liked the ideas in this one better. Instead of being realistic and rather dull, I'd get surprised at how amazing the situations got. (especially with the finale events)

The first game felt kinda like it had the same ol' dusty dark environment while this one offers a bit more variety. (to much refreshment) This game is FULL of great ideas and I'm surprised nobody could come up with them as custom content. I absolutely love the characters and their little conversations in the saferoom. What's up with Rochelle? She barely even talks?

I am still at the tip of the ice-burg as far as getting through all the content this game has to offer, but I already feel generally satisfied with the product. :D

I've been playing nothing but Scavenge. What a fucking brilliant addition.

They're just adding the atmosphere with quirks and stuff. Like Mustachio, whom, if you ask me is WAY cooler.

If anything it'd just be a viral site. It's hardly more than that.

QFT

Really makes this game more enjoyable than the first, I always wanted a game mode like this as multiplayer mode. It could use a few more stages and maybe less lag in some cases, but it's really great to get a match going in which both teams are skilled! Really look forward to making some maps with this gametype in mind.

Now make downloadable game types via the addons menu and give people the ability to modify basic gameplay code and I think we could see a LOT of creativity, and now there's infinite space for them to fit that in if they wanted to, which is my assumption for the menu change. I have a feeling I will be disappointed, but keeping my hopes up is nice.

Commentary is great too, shows a lot of thought into this game even with the short development time.

Yeah, I wish we had a better way to distribute addon campaigns, or even just survival/scavenge/anything. The .vpk thing bugs me, because I feel like perhaps things won't get as much attention as they deserve, simply because it's like "Oh, let's play this ma-oh. You have to go download it..."

Maybe maps under a certain MB size can be downloaded via server? I dunno. The .vpk thing is nice because it's an easy install file wise, but just convience wise I think people would just skip it and play something else, instead of having to alt-tab, download, install, etc. Just to see if it's good. The classic downloading things from servers is much better, but I do understand if a campaign has a lot of maps and custom stuff, you sorta don't have a choice. It'd just be nice if you had one map for scavenger or survival if you could just download it.

/needless rant

It would be cool if there was a sort of "browser" in the game that leads to a sort of library of all the maps posted in a certain place and you can just look at all the maps posted there and download them directly to the game...
