Also on a side note, assuming L4D2 will be around longer than L4D, aka more than a year, perhaps they'll follow the same path as TF2 and start including community made campaigns and maps to it. That'd be nice I reckon.

srredfire wrote:Yeah, I wish we had a better way to distribute addon campaigns, or even just survival/scavenge/anything. The .vpk thing bugs me, because I feel like perhaps things won't get as much attention as they deserve, simply because it's like "Oh, let's play this ma-oh. You have to go download it..."

Maybe maps under a certain MB size can be downloaded via server? I dunno. The .vpk thing is nice because it's an easy install file wise, but just convience wise I think people would just skip it and play something else, instead of having to alt-tab, download, install, etc. Just to see if it's good. The classic downloading things from servers is much better, but I do understand if a campaign has a lot of maps and custom stuff, you sorta don't have a choice. It'd just be nice if you had one map for scavenger or survival if you could just download it.

/needless rant

I have the strangest feeling that the when the addon option was initially launched you could download the .vpk 'in-game' at the click of a button. Then after a couple of weeks they changed it to just having a link to the download requiring the game to launch your browser. Can someone please explain why they did this? I don't think i imagined this...

perhaps because not all the downloads were reliable and functional? Also, would it not be prudent to allow a user to decide whether or not he wanted to download from a particular website?

I just think it would have been smart of Valve to create a mini-site similar to L4Dmods.com that would be the official landing site of all the mods, guaranteeing decent download locations. I really think they should begin doing the TF2 thing with adding in community maps. It would certainly be a step up from the current system.

No, listen to the commentary fox before insulting my intelligence.

Aparently there's a water flow painting tool, probably similar to alpha painting. You can see it at the bridge part, in which water movement can be (I believe) effected by the materials that blow it's flow if you mark it out correctly. They didn't talk about it much, but they explained they added a new tool for water movement and flow. :smt023

edit: Video I uploaded for people who don't own l4d2. Gets a lil' laggy due to fraps XD

See, not much was really said.
