In one view, it's a good game that was well advertised. Everyone who bought l4d1 would be missing out if they didn't buy l4d2, so really, they really had big numbers to begin with. In another view, the game's lacking enough new features and new content to truly be considered a predecessor.
Now if l4d2 packaged l4d1 with it, it would have been a great sequel, but unfortunately I don't think it's worth the price they put on it. It's a fun game, but once the novelty wears off there's just not enough content that lasts. I find myself atm playing l4d2 on and off, and playing TF2 when I feel that need to play a game. Honestly, L4D2 is already going down my list and it's also been seen less and less on my friends list each day I check.
Theres a lot of collision issues in L4D still that they haven't resolved. Playing a hunter, charger, or jockey is when this is most noticeable. I spend much of my time bumping into people when I do my leap / charge / pounce but not actually getting it registered as a "hit." It's probably the same flaw in the net code that has been in most Half Life 2 based Games (TF2 resolved it a little bit, but not really.)
Content is epic, but still small. While scavange is fun, everyone wants to play the same map over and over again. Not only that, but since the maps that came with the game are just the campaigns, the visuals can wear off quickly.
The lack of an SDK on launch like promised is dissapointing, and makes L4D2 a bit stale playing the same default maps over and over again. Some custom maps would be a very nice change and would probably keep me playing even more! I mean, I sort of expected this to happen (again) but honestly, I don't understand it. It's the same tool valve uses, so unless there's some big changes being planned what exactly takes them so long to release the new sdk?
If they added an ability to custom make gametype addons (as in, new game modes) that would probably be the best thing in the world, and also make it so that the gametype addons could also specify player maximums. They would pretty much be in-game mini mods, which would be fun imo and could really use the director in some interesting ways.
The black friday price reduction was nice, as well as the 4x bargain price, but reduction of price or bargain prices do not count as the official price tag, and thus I still stand by my word that the price tag definitely does not represent the product, and could easily have gone for about 30 - 40 dollars, and include the original L4D1 campaigns (even though people who bought l4d1 would moan, it would make the purchase even better for people who haven't bought l4d1 and would also be vastly different with the new infected and weapons.)
