City 17 Episode One December Update

Just in time for Christmas, mod team Gear have released a bevvy of media and information about their SP Mod, City 17: Episode One.

The December Update includes screens and info regarding new engine features, particle systems, weapons, music and achievements.

The team have also committed to releasing in the first half of 2010.

I don't get it, what is so cool about this mod? All I see is just boring C17 done over and over, with some reflective effects.

It may be a tried and (over?)done setting, but the screenshots show quality level design, as well as engine graphical alterations the likes of which source has never yet seen(don't quote me on this). So far, I think we can forgive it any potential unoriginality for its high level of quality(which I hope is consistent within the actual game).

However, I am interested about the story. If there's any place that requires originality, it's that, and there are so many potential takes on the HL universe that no one has yet explored. In other words, I hope you guys have a damn good writer.

And by the way, headbob is stupid, annoying, and, believe it or not, unrealistic. So I'm glad you've made it an option, and not forced.

When I started this mod, I was fully aware of how many city-based mods there really were out there. Our goal, if not small, is to seriously make this the golden scepter of City based mods.

I also lol'd pretty hard at that one Mr. Chop.

Looks really nice, but I hope you will release screenshots from a higher point of view so we can visualize more the city scape and everything else that goes with a city based mod. Maybe there's some media somewhere of that, if so, link it to me :P!

EDIT: Nvm, i found the moddb page and it looks pretty sweet :D

Just to let everyone know.


But seriously it looks really nice. It is also good to see some shaders been brought in (the blur on the weapons is a shader right?, Also I thought I saw some dof but that might just be might short sightedness tricking me).


About the weapons thought it would be nice to see some high poly detailed baked onto them to really take advantage if the lighting effects.
