I'm trying to think of Demo and Soldier unlocks that may counter the other, but I can't think of very much.

I suppose you could have a rocket that destroys or temporarily disables stickies (as opposed to knocking them around) but I'm not sure what might exist in the other direction.

My current favorite theory is that Demo/Soldier are just examples chosen, and that there will be some map--like halloween Harvest--but based on an existing game-mode.

Perhaps two players are randomly paired as "friends". Nobody except the two friends knows exactly who has the friendship. Your "goal" is to kill your friend for some bauble, and vice-versa. If you wait too long, both of you become moved to a third-team and your own teammates will seek to kill you for the same prize.

It's already happening. The outcome of the update will be determined by how many soldiers/demomen die. This is already being tracked.

I was in the TF2Maps chat room when Dario Casali (Valve level designer) joined the chat. Here's a transcript.

he didn't say an update, he said "gets something cool". Since it's not the plural, "gets some cool things", I am assuming it isn't the weapons. It will probably be a crown hat, or some sort of temporary winter buff.

To be honest, they should take whoever has the lowest score and consider balancing said class, but that would be far too blizzard for valve.

Well I've heard of a few Blizzard employees being hired at Valve over the past few years... There's no way they can fuck TF2 as much as Blizzard fucked WoW though.
