Well I've heard of a few Blizzard employees being hired at Valve over the past few years... There's no way they can fuck TF2 as much as Blizzard fucked WoW though.
1) DotA =/ Blizzard. DotA is a mod. Only word I heard is that they employed DotA's original creators, which really don't have much of a connection to blizzard. Not to undermine the work of IceFrog though, truely a great developer and has achieved much more than I, however it is certainly not the case that he is a blizzard employee.
2) WoW is balanced as much as an MMO can be, or should be for that matter. They're also constantly working on it for years to get balancing right. Regardless of you oppinion of WoW, Starcraft and Warcraft are 2 of the most competitive games for a reason: because they are flawless in terms of balance. Not to mention WoW:WotLK improved one of my biggest gripes about the original game: They actually made music that has a melody! Huzzah! A bit unfair, but I guess what I am getting at is they really bumped their music quality of WoW in the most recent expansion.
So that argument is fail. Also, WoW is a million times better than it started, you just hate it cuz it's popular and, well, because that's the way you move on from MMO games. Felt the same way about FFXI, but that was actually a shit game. It's funny how popular games always get that "oh that's uncool" backlash. (*cough GTA4 cough*) I guess I like anime, so I don't even care if something is uncool, I just watch / play / read and examine every bit of it to find its pros and cons.

Valve isn't horrible with balance, but this "special weapon for one character who does better than the other" doesn't really seem to "balance" the class. Unless this special item is just aesthetic and or not very effective, I definitely see this as being a somewhat unfair decision. Why doesn't the sniper get 4 unlocks like the soldier or demoman? Uncool.
Furthermore, having an unlock that can work for both classes really seems to, well, cheapen the design thought. I liked to think that each weapon was designed for each class to fit not only it's personality but fits the design. With this wildcard, it really seems to me that they didn't design this thinking about who really deserved it design wise, and instead decided to throw it in there to whoever is already the better class, which just doesn't add up to me.
Though, have they confirm or denied it truly being a weapon? I've still got STRONG suspicion that it's going to be either a hat or a festive weapon for the winter holidays. (Present grenades anyone?)
Also, I wish there were some sort of "spoiler" tags to hide specific types of text, just for the sake of being able to keep my off topic bantering / counter bantering in a hidden mode for people who could care less.
Maybe I'm just a nit picker with balance, but every time I play a valve game there's always a problem with balance, whether it is L4D2's special infected, weapons in CS:S, or the TF2 Unlocks vs Defaults and Class vs Class. There's plenty of useless weapons in TF2 that shouldn't be in the game if they have no benefit or serve no purpose. And with the recent spitter nerf, though it was light, it makes me think they have it all wrong with balance, they should be balancing other classes / special infected UP not nerfing the ones that already work fine. I don't wanna post more, if I had a really good opinion I would probably have a job doing this. However, I want people at interlopers to know there's certainly a line to be drawn when discussing LIKING a game, and being critical of it. I love TF2, it's a great game, I have fun playing it, I've enjoyed many of the updates and really this updating philosophy is what started getting me to play this game that I just saw as "being packaged with HL2:Ep 2". However, because I like a game doesn't mean I won't be critical of it, and discussing any game I can try to come up with some design flaws or visual flaws because I feel like it's a healthy way to keep your mind in the mindset of being a developer while enjoying your time. That being said, again, I don't have a job at this, so you all can just mind about your day and regard me as another poster if you don't really care to share your thoughts on the issue. I think, however, if more reviewers spent their time thinking about design and balance, I think the review industry would be much stronger than it is. I would be a reviewer, but this wall of text probably informs you that my writing isn't very great... =P
