So basically what we are saying is:

In RafaelBA's opinion Bioware > Valve because he likes the games that Bioware has recently delivered over Valves.
In many other's opinion, Valve > Bioware because they like Valve's recent games better.

The only real difference in this debate is that RafaelBA likes single player games better than multi-player games. As such, one is entitled to one's opinion. The stand off was based off of votes, not a debate between the CEO of each company on which type of game is most marketable at the moment.

The poll shows (or intended to show) which company gamers think is best. The result, however flawed, is that Valve is the victor. It's ok that RafaelBA likes Bioware better, and he's justified his position adequately - especially considering this is a matter of opinion.

The end result was pretty much a 50% split.

If this was politics, there would be a round 2.

CS 1.5 and Half-Life were my beginnings in PC gaming, and I haven't passed up a single Valve game since then. Left 4 Dead 2 is about the only thing I've been really unimpressed with from Valve.

Anyway, Bioware has delivered Mass Effect to us and it's 3rd to Half-Life in my favorites (Metroid Prime is 1st, suck it haters!). I love Bioware, but Valve's roots are just dug far deeper in me (and I realize that may sound sexual to some of you).

That's how I chose Valve.

Thanks coder0xff, for the nice sum-up. I guess you're right, it's a matter of taste. Meaning, I got taste, and the rest of you don't!!! Bwahahahaha

Anyway Valve's games went a long way with me, I even have a huge HL2 poster that I edited, printed out especially, framed and hung on my wall. I owe a lot of great moments to Valve, but unfortunately I just don't see it going on any time soon. And what will happen after Ep3? There's this feeling that this is the end of the path, that after Portal 2 and Ep3, and maybe a spinoff episode, it'll be over and Valve will go back to making serial multiplayer zombie spanking games forever.

I can respect a persons opinion as much as the next guy, but the way I am hearing it is that you like one company over the other because you have played their games more recently, Like if I said a loved a movie, then next day I saw a new one, of equal status, and said I like that one more, because I saw it that day...
I feel we should based the games on their quallity, not on when they were released.
a Game from 1995 can still be better then a game from 2009, and If happens that the developer is better...then the developer is better. even if it hasn't made a new game recently.

Wait, so valve is a better company because it's the most popular? Well I guess I should go back to loving nintendo again.

P.S. I enjoy old Squaresoft / Square Enix RPGs more than valve games, but I definitely wouldn't say square enix is a better COMPANY, regardless of profit margins. Ultimately, best company is trivial, you're better off focusing on : Was the game fun? If yes, the game is good. If no, the game isn't good. Since fun is subjective, the argument is trivial. Since I prefer multi player experiences that are balanced between all classes / teams, I don't think valve is a very good company since they never really focus on frequent and minor balance changes within a product, at least in comparison to a company like blizzard.

oh and for the record: The escapist really isn't the best source for this type of polling, since it doesn't take into consideration of people who play games less frequently / don't follow the news, also doesn't focus on the casual player.

Normally, I'd be offended to have someone put words in my mouth. But coming from you, Yokai, I know that it's what you do with all your homeys. :[]:

I think the amount of attention the poll has gotten (especially after completion) is undue. The conditions of the poll where FARRRRR from ubiased and scientific and its results are irrelevant. Basically, I think it was just supposed to be for the fuck of it (AKA. for fun).

...yokai has a point...we shouldn't be fighting each other over who is the better developer, we should be fighting The Escapist for being a bad website, I mean come on, being allowed to vote because you have facebook...in a comp that features a company that "develops" for facebook. we can all agree that zynga is a pretty crap developer, since I know at least one of there games is an exact rip off of another facebook game...

I dunno if you're trying to make a point or just stating it for its own sake. If you're trying to make a point, then my response is, "You don't play L4D on facebook."

Mass Effect 2 = Very, very good.

Half-Life 2 = Very, very good.

Along with L4D, Portal, Ep1 and Ep2, HL1 and TF2. Oh, and CSS. And CS. Erm, I think that's it.

My point wasn't to make you eat your own words coder (but color me happy you seem to think that) but my point is more so that a) statistics are bullshit, b) how were the "nominees" chosen and why, and c) choosing a company is biased toward your own opinions about the games they develop. It's funny how the majority of games in that list are FPS / TPS games, and the rest of them only exist because of their affiliation to social networking... It's almost as if a certain type of game is more popular... huh, I'd have to look into it.

I think I've been on spot for saying x company is better that y company, yes yes I know, but I've always considered that MY opinion. Obviously I get defensive and aggressive about my opinions, you've all noticed that. But I don't feel like that should be something everyone all feels the same about, because if that were the case we'd never find "flaws" with any kind of company.

Guys, we are talking about OPINIONS.

Valve > Zynga is a fact.

Valve > Bioware is opinion, and as such it's stupid to argue about who's right and who's wrong.
