Steam changes live!

Postby Blink on Mon Apr 26, 2010 9:33 pm

If you hadn't noticed, the new Steam UI changes have been released as of today.

As if that's not enough they've also re-designed the store to fit the new overall look. I really like the new design and features and I'm chuffed that 'slim view' has come across into the new design as well.

Full details can be found on the UI update page.

Where? I can't find it amongst all the shiny bloat.

Im unhappy with the majority of the changes. WHERE MAH SERVER BUTTON VALVE??

edit: Oh, small mode went the way of my server button as well, tucked up in the view menu. WHY? What was wrong with the little dedicated button in the corner? Wtf? How are these improvements?

"Add a game" is still a dedicated button. God forbid anyone miss the opportunity to accidentally click it and accidentally buy something. Thats much more important than getting to your games and servers.

They have also changed the forums to fit as well. Theme for everything seems too standard, presentation-style, default-theme-you-get-free-with-the-program-ish. In short, it's shite compared to the old look.

I don't know what you guys are bitching about, it's just as ugly as the old steam.

ps. Lady_Miss_Christen's account?

That's impossible, you know that right? You don't just click "buy game" and it magically charges you before any sort of confirmation...

And I will give you the new steam forums is bad, only because I can't tell what's wrong with it. Reading it makes my eyes hurt... Actually, that's probably due more to the content of the steam forums than the actual forum theme itself.

Of course, I was being sarcastic.
I was trying to express how the changes feel like they're all for the benefit of the steam store, and not for actually playing your games easily.
Using the store is easier, interacting with the community is easier, getting to my games is worse. Thats how I generally feel about the new UI.

How is getting to your games worse? You can even make your own filters now, which is a godsend if you've got a huge list. You can get the old one line per game, but now with added news info etc... or more graphical views to chose from.

There is no way this is worse than the old Steam. Graphically this is sharper and more superior.

You guys are just like pensioners that can't handle change. :-)

The way I look at it, it sucks less. So I suppose it's better.

Looks better, but doesn't seem to run a whole lot better.
Have a question related to modding or something I posted? Something that needs staff attention? I haven't been active lately, but feel free to PM me or message me on Steam(link below)

But... change... is... bad... That's why I shop at walmart every day, grab a coffee at starbucks, spend a day watching a movie rented from blockbuster, and eat my subway dinner drinking my cocacola... I could literally be anywhere with that description alone, no detective in the world could pinpoint my info with those clues. God forbid my life change in one way or the other.

But yes, exactly my point. Thank you.

^^i allmost thought it's gone completly.
Not sure why they decided to remove the buttons for switching between small and default mode.
One thing i dont like is the missing of the icons in front of the mods, while all the icons of official games are still there.

I really love it, fresh and good. Works better with the store and it is overall easier to navigate through your games I think. In the old one it was too easy.

I also like that they have impeltented the win7 windows code thing for all steam windows, makes it easy to set up serveral chat windows then and such.
+in the old steam, when I was downloading a game for say, half-life, and was going to play a multiplayer game, ofc I paused the download, but it allways started by it self after like 15 min or so when I was playing on a server, and my internet connection is bad so I really could not play the game :( Now it is working perfect with pauseing and so :D
So I think it is neat! Good work Valve!

My diet is far less healthy and I'm pretty lean actually. Metabolism ftw.

Of course, I'll have to change my diet sooner or later.

But seriously, Subway? The meat there is horrible quality. You should at least treat yourself to a real dinner. Shit, grill some potatoes and a steak, and cook up some wild rice and peas to go along with it. You can still have your coke and it will be the best dinner you'll ever have.
