Natural Selection 2 Alpha : Monday

Postby Blink on Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:52 am

It's your last chance to get involved in the NS2 alpha that will be launching on the 26th July. Those that have purchased the Special Edition version will get early access to the game and quite a few features will be present at this early stage:

  • One of our shipping maps (ns2_tram), plus some smaller "test" maps
  • Marine, with Rifle, Pistol, SwitchAx, Grenade Launcher (oops, and shotgun!)
  • Skulks, Gorges, Lerks and their basic movement abilities and weapons
  • Marine armory "buy" screen for purchasing new equipment
  • Alien evolution menu for choosing your lifeform and upgrades
  • Basic marine and alien commander interfaces including MACs, Drifters
  • Much of our final sounds, artwork, animations, etc.

I've just purchased my copy, and you've got just over a day left to get yours.

Hmm, to bad that I now at the moment does not have a single peny in my pocket. Need to wait about 2 more weeks to get my job moneys^^
But I was never involved with this mod wave. I have just read about it and such, but it looks pretty cool and would be fun to test. Is it still playable in some mod or so?

God damn it, I have only 30euros on my Paypal account. It's not enough and I can't transfer enough on time because when I sent there money last time, it took like 3-4 days. :/

Bought this a few months ago when it was bundled with Overgrowth. Very happy about that decision now. :)

Thanks for that, I played it for bout 30 minuites. Was not much activity around in the 5 servers I found :/ But I got really impressed of how much cool stuff they got into the glodsrc. It felt really awsome and refreshing cuse they have done a very good job with the atosphere I think :)
Damn, I really want to pre-order this game now but do you know if it will come out in boxes (stores)? Or will they do some online pay solution only?

Anyway this actually made my rainy sunday :D

Natural Selection is the best mod on the GoldSrc engine, I used to spend a lot of hours playing it.

Not sure if they'll ever sell physical copies, it would probably cost too much.

On monday I hope be live streaming the alpha on Ustream. It really depends on how I feel about the game's initial alpha release.

Keep in mind, the game will probably be more or less be the basic bare bones of what an FPS game is. If you've been following the twitter, you'd know that only more recently have they been able to actually implement the important aspects of NS to the game.

I'm hoping for the best, and from what I've played the engine is promising.

I'm just looking forward to being involved in the evolution of the game from the state it is now to much more polished versions. Much like the first version of the game.

Same here, but I know there'll be a few people who are like "omg this game isn't polished /rage", those people irritate me slightly.

For those, like me, having issues connecting to servers, fleyra posted this:

Flayra wrote:Yeah we're seeing that problem here too. Still trying to figure out what's happening. I did notice if I turned on port-forwarding to the machine that was trying to connect (behind a firewall), it ended up working. However, the game was acting like it was super-laggy so I'm not sure that is the proper fix.

Update: OK I think we know what's happening. We're not filtering listen servers from dedicated servers in the server browser. Whoops. So any server you're trying to connect to is probably behind a firewall, which would cause the black-screen and timeout. In cases when the server is not behind a firewall, but is still a listenserver, it probably doesn't have the bandwidth to handle many players.

That's our current thinking, we'll keep our ears open!

For some it may be a disappointment, but keep in mind that this is what alpha is for really. The netcode tests come first and formost, and UW isn't necessarily the type of company that can afford the pricey testing equipment that other companies can afford.

Once I can get in a game, and can get into games without hassle, I will be streaming it.
