Portal 2 at GamesCom

Postby Mess on Thu Aug 19, 2010 9:58 am

Valve have revealed more about Portal 2 at GamesCom 2010. Perhaps the most pertinent information is that the game will be released on February 9 2011. They have also revealed that the voice of Wheatley is to be provided by Office star Stephen Merchant.

Here's a video of off-screen footage.

Looks good, don't want to watch to much, so I don't spoil anything.

The dynamic lighting looks freaking awesome! Wheatley's flashlight was created just to show off their new lighting.

I think the delay was Valve time....

Stephen Merchant is a fucking legend, and it was an awesome move to get him in to voice Wheatley. Also means for a possible bigger fanbase for portal 2, as fans of the Office/Extras will be curious about this. Especially english folk heh heh. He dwells from Bristol too! woooo

Oh and I think that glass is just a very nice dynamic model. What impressed and amused me most was the repulsion gel when it goes through the excursion tunnel. That was a wow moment. And then the turrets bouncing around was great.

Oh and sorry to break everyones' happiness over this new dynamic lighting...it doesnt look very new. I found a slightly higher quality vid on IGN/gamespot and it still has the grainy edges on Wheatley's flashlight :/ It looks slightly updated and it's obvious more of these lights can be used, but it doesnt look like a complete overhaul of the lighting system.

I was not thinking complete overhaul, we still have to wait till computer that are 10yrs old can handle dynamic lighting......
But it is a lot better looking!
