I've gotta try penumbra... only played the demos and I've heard great things about it

You do know that they grab you if you get close enough. I got hit by them once or twice because I thought they were just shadows messing with me at first rather then enemies that would attack you if you walked into them.

If you want to look at some good psychological horror reference you should play 'Mistake -1' just don't let that annoying vent at the beginning stop you. :)

I felt the same exact way, that part slightly disappointed me.

Decent mod, enjoyed playing through it. Prologue was pretty, uh, crappy, but the proper game was really well done for a mod.

Highlight to read:
Never played Condemned, so I found the mannequins an interesting idea. Also reminded me of the weeping angels from Dr. Who. The shadow ghosts were cool, I guess they were some sort of sprites? Shrinking rooms were pretty neat as well, and I was really glad there was much less floorfalling that in the prologue.

The choice in the end. I liked that alot. Initially I saved, and planned to see what "getting out" would do, but then I said fuck it, let's get the proper ending first. Good thing, I read in the Dr.'s logs that Emily would probably rip me apart if I tried to leave.

Now the not so good stuff. Soldiers. The characters were fine, but why would an elite SWAT team team up with a fucked up looking (player was in a coma for some time, clothes weren't changed, unshaven face) patient with guns and a bloody axe? I agree with Banter that fighting them would be too cliche, and I was actually expecting that, but them just letting you loose with a bunch of weapons felt unrealistic.

Lady announcer. Nice idea to put her in, and actually getting a female voice, but the lines could do with better writing. It didn't really feel like an announcer (and yes, it was possessed or whatever, but when you started the mod it was to sound like any generic announcer) but like someone who was playing with the mic in the announcer room trying to improvise and sound authentic. The line delivery could have been better as well.

The writing. Initially it seemed like they wanted to put on a more serious censored face on the mod, with the whole interference when the Dr. says "get the f*pfft* out of here" but then it became a fuck fest. Marines saying fuck all over the place, and the doctor in the end as well. Also, scoobydoo threeway, seriously?

Also in relation to the writing, throughout the game the doctor was positioned (I think at least) as a character with some intellect and spoken eloquence. But then his logs were terrible. It didn't seem like a scientist wrote it, but a generic idiot. I think the mood of the mod would REALLY benefit if the doctor was more like the Architect from the Matrix. He believes in whatever he does, and he doesn't find it wrong. I understand his change of form towards the end, he was afraid of dying and afraid of Emily, but a scared Architect would do a bigger impression than one liners like "I will kill you...with fucking science of course!"

Last but not least, the finale would really benefit from more variety. I like that there was a bit old school boss fight thing, but it was pretty much the same thing for 10 minutes. Two fast zombies spawn, kill them with shotgun, go bash the wooden bars.

Anyway, I liked the mod, and now I'm considering downloading Penumbra again cause I didn't finish it.

Looks like a part of a link to me.

I knew it :P I thought the whole thing was a part of the link though, not individual lines.

I also forgot to mention that it was nice to see a bunch of lopers in the credits.

I forgot to mention but I had subtitles on and proper freaked out at the start when the words "Don't look behind you" kept spamming my screen. I literally paused and waited a bit and then turned around to find nothing. I take it that was a random scare?

I turned the subtitles of, I felt they ruined the experience a bit. I also turned off the crosshair, I was surprised it was left in the final cut of the game in the first place.
