Examples? I can expect GLaDOS/Wheatly to be absurdly high counts, but what else?

could you do me a big favor and explain how you did it? because all i see when i open up the portal 2 cache file (which is actually listed in windows as an NCF ("no cache file")) it simply shows a bunch of Source Game Add-On files, which are 200mb each. I tried to run one of them and it popped up an error saying that they are not accessible.

and the materials and models folder are empty, save for a few that were used to create the "Super 8" map.

So.......? Not sure what to do...

Recommend you finish the game entirely.
Highlight to read:
So I got to thinking on the turret who you save.
He mentions the story of Prometheus, this got me wondering with this whole turret society thing going around.
We know GLaDOS rules pretty harshly and carries out the old Aperture Science method of making sure no AI has time to gain free thought. (Cubes, Turrets, Androids)
We also get a glimpse at turrets with personality and free will being discarded for the (working :\) and docile turrets based on a perfect template.
So its obvious now that the facility did not just stop and at least ran minimally during GLaDOS's time gone.
We also know by Wheatlys reaction that GLaDOS is a feared relic of the past.
Now can we not assume the Turrets were basically freed of the fear of being destroyed for free will?
This puts a whole spin on the Prometheus story, Chell GAVE the Turrets, and probably plenty of other AIs the abillity to think and learn for themselves.

Thus bringing down a fire and being punished for it.
Contact. The EU welcomes the pain free. That's emotional impact.
I actually think limitation is good for creativity. If we had an engine that could do everything, we would be in trouble. It gives us focus. ~~ Randy Lundeen

Joe, make sure you have the latest version of GCFScape and go to "Common/Portal 2/portal2/" in the steam files and locate the vpk named "pak01_dir.vpk" and open it with GCFScape. Should work perfectly. NCF files never contain any actual game content as far as I know. They're used by Steam for file referencing and shit I think; something along those lines I guess.

Also, you need to make sure you have latest version of VTFedit if you want to open any textures from the game since it uses the new vtf version 7.5.

well they are trying to make this as assessable to newbies as possible. it is just a tad overkill though...

lol, the small letters on the screen were not that bad.. obviously for most of us it was unnecessary.. but you should check some of the youtube videos out there of nubs playing portal 2 and you'll understand why they added this :P

Just finished the game, it was a blast. The whackiest game I ever played.
Am I the only one thinking there was absolutely no need to use DUCK throughout the game..?

Highlight to read:
Aperture's history, the overgrown concurrent complex, the awesome new puzzles, and all the little clues that Valve put everywhere... Such a good time. At some point I realized I was running through portals with a potato that had an incredibly deadly AI through the catacombs of an endless futuristic research facility, and I was like "this shit is crazy." And that was BEFORE I blew a hole in the moon.

Only something I didn't quite understand...
Highlight to read:
Glados was actually the assistant from old Aperture? Or was she just a part of Glados..? Why did Glados erase her in the end?

Highlight to read:
I think Caroline was part of her, Cave did want her to run the facility remember
I also think that Glados erased her because it made her a 'better person' or 'AI'... I guess she didn't like that :P
anyway, there are some hints (in the ending song for example) that Caroline was Chells mother

Ahhhh I absolutely loved it! gahhh!

Highlight to read:
Especially the whole 1960's-1980's area, with all of its sweet giant spheres. I loved the old style cubes and puzzles, that was great. I laughed when the little guy is in space, and i like the background you get at the end. I just wonder why wheatly didn't kill you when he had the chance, instead of making you test more?

The old dr breen dude mentioned storing his mind on a computer so it could last forvever. Clearly Caroline has had her mind stored into glados, being the most humane side of glados.

I liked the game, but I'm not overly enthusiastic. It didn't feel fleshy enough for a full-blown game as it was.
Clearly Valve depends on the community to build the games for them

then let u hope and pray that they resolve their remaining sdk issues.

also, here's something that would be totally awesome: what if the Dear Esther mod was recreated in the Portal 2 engine?

And released to consoles as playable maps?

yeah, that's true, but forcing me to read an explanation on what screen resolution is when want to change that option? ...and then forcing me to read it every. single. time. i want to change resolution? nope, not having it.

i know the hovering keys are there to help people who've never used a computer before and/or thought AOL was complicated, but this hand-holding shit, combined with the fact that i couldn't find a way to turn it off, completely killed the game for me. i stopped playing like a half-hour into the game.

kinda sad because this is the first time in my life i've ever felt like returning a valve game.
