You're 'only' forgetting their 2 new 2012 games they're working on, CS:GO and DOTA2.

customers of product A have to wait for support because they're busy with product B
and when product B is finished, they will continue with product C

this is not how it should work D.

Making episodic releases.
Making L4D2 barely a year after the first release.
Buying DotA and making a sequel.

"have to wait for support" ? Is the game broken? nope

They don't have to support anything.

One can assume that in this case support doesn't just mean fixing things, but maintaining them, which is hugely important to multiplayer games like Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead. In this particular instance, "product A" refers to the Half-Life series, which has been neglected whilst Valve busy themselves with product B,C,D,E,Etc.

I would love for Valve to actually communicate with us as modders regarding issues with the SDK, codebase and authoring tools but with regards to Episode 3 imo Valve can do whatever the fuck they want.

If they've been silent about it, I trust it's for a good reason. My theory is that it will be a next gen console title and they don't want to release details because they can't talk about the next generation consoles yet. I suspect that sometime this year they'll open up a bit and finally announce HL3 and I bet it will be a full length game a la HL2 not the episodes. I'm also guessing they have some interesting marketing plan / ARG sort of thing planned that they want to start off with a bang rather than Gabe just announcing HL3 in an interview or something.

I love Valve and I love being a Valve fan but the Valve community can act really entitled and immature sometimes (L4D2 boycott and stuff like that). Seeing people whine about how they didn't get enough free stuff during the latest holiday sale promotion for example. This petition is much more moderate and presented respectfully which I appreciate, but tbh I have complete faith in Valve that they have their reasons for their silence w/r/t Ep3/HL3. People act like Valve promised us 3 episodic titles about a year apart each and have been silent and failed to deliver, but the truth is that Valve quite vocally and publicly backpedaled and admitted their mistake with the episodic model YEARS ago, prior to Ep2 even.

Well some people are speculating that the metallic noises heard around the world is some kind of viral marketing campaign. IMO the noises sound very familiar to the citadel in HL2.

Conspiracy nuts gathering videos of weird noises around the world, I don't know. Would make one hell of a marketing campaign, though.

Pretty much what Ennui said. I'm pretty sure they're busy with something BIG.

If you need support for L4D, just go here. ;)

The game? No. The Authoring Tool is broken. The model viewer is unusable. This has killed any further mods for L4D. This is apparently what they wanted all along.

don't bother tron, apparently what Valve said was subjective and some people think the game has to be broken in order to get support ^^

I want the codebase to L4D1/2 and Portal 2, plus future titles. Not forgetting custom shader support. Ain't gonna happen. For some reason, maybe legal or cost.

Though, if Valve doesn't release an update(that actually fixes things) then the modding community will just continue to decrease in both size and happiness. I think the perfect thing to bring people back would be to release EP3 will a full SDK(as in codebase and all), as I'm sure it will have stuff like CSM and other relatively modern features.
Have a question related to modding or something I posted? Something that needs staff attention? I haven't been active lately, but feel free to PM me or message me on Steam(link below)
