Natural Selection 2 Gorilla Trailer

Postby Blink on Fri Feb 03, 2012 8:04 pm

Unknown Worlds have been hard at work on the new Natural Selection and judging by trailer they've just released, it's looking top notch:

Today we released a big new patch to Natural Selection 2. This update is code-named "Gorilla" because it contains our 5th and final alien: the Onos. It also includes marine jetpacks and a new map called mineshaft.

Natural Selection 2 is a sequel to Natural Selection, which was a mod for Half-life and released in 2002. NS2 is written on our own custom engine called "Spark" and ships with all the tools and game code used in the game. In fact, NS2 is a mod itself, which we are hoping will show players what they can make if they choose to mod our game! We have over 30,000 players in the beta and we will release v1.0 to the public this summer.

Find more info about the release in this news post.

I have to say these guys are SLOWLY getting there... I've been on and off with the beta and glad to see these updates. The games quite fun but hating these vets that play fade and destroy me.. :? The onos is awesome but he goes down fast for some reason... Besides that they really need to fix the mouse feel it's sloppy and feels laggy in it's movement. The maps are great and very well detailed. Performance and network code jumps a hell of a lot and lag happens randomly. I fear if they don't fix optimization (which I hear is last on the list) the game can look awesome but nobodies going to be able to play it nicely with bad fps. Great stuff overall jetpacks are in now so that's fun! :smt023

I haven't been able to play this at all, really. I bought it when it was still in alpha I think and the optimization was so bad, the two patches before Gorilla however really improved the performance and they keep optimizing the game. So no, optimization isn't last on their list, they add more optimization with every patch. The only issue I have with the game now is how it's so unbalanced, and they just nerfed shotguns so facing a Fade is an absolute nightmare. I might try it out a little bit again, but from what I'm hearing it's still too unbalanced and aliens always has the upper hand.

I thought the aliens were supposed to have the upper hand? You know, to simulate the helplessness.

It is multiplayer though. Guess it makes way more sense to make everything balanced.
