The only mod I really cared about in CSS was Zombie Mod, but I even grew tired of that before CSGO was even announced. Still, it'd be real smart of Valve to release a 2012 SDK that's
stable at the very least; not just another set of authoring tools that has pretty much the same issues as the Source SDK.
If we get a real update to the SDK, the modding scene should be reinvigorated from it. All us modest mappers want is a more stable Hammer at the very least. I sure as
hell get tired of it randomly crashing for no damned reason. But some major streamlining would go a very long way as well considering the entire modding scene. The SDK itself is to blame for making Source modding so unappealing these days.
It's amazing how Valve never bothered to make any actual GUI for converting and compiling models and textures available to the modding scene after all these years. Modders had to do all that themselves. GUIstudioMDL, VTFedit, MDLdecompiler, Photoshop VTF plugins, SMD plugins for 3DS Max and Maya; all that is the work of dedicated modders. I simply can't stand using command line. It's so outdated and tedious. Some would disagree and I've actually met modders who prefer it, but I guess they've just had more experience with it so it's like second nature to them. I, on the other hand, am a lazy prick and want a graphic user interface for every last function.
I'm not trying to diss Valve or anything. They're my favorite developer. Still...it just feels like they don't care about the modding scene as much these days.
