The Good News? Or The Bad News?

Postby wiggle987 on Fri Jul 22, 2005 4:07 am

Well, following on from the recent news that EA was VALVe's new publisher, Doug Lombardi has answered the big question mark about Hl2: Aftermath going retail.

"Originally toted as a Steam-only title, I recently confirmed with Valve's Doug Lombardi that the EA deal will bring Aftermath to the stores. If you remember from the original online reports of the title, it was suggested that a boxed form wouldn't be available.

Chris_D: Does this mean that EA will bring Aftermath to the stores?

Doug: Yes.

Stay tuned for more information on Aftermath.

Little by little EA will eat Valve until they have no control. But look at the positive side, Half Life: Agent Under Fire and CS: European Assault will be out this fall and in the winter you can look forward to Sourceball: Street.
Their first album was better.

There's no way I'm going to buy the retail version. For one thing, I don't like EA, and don't want to feed it.

For another, I've always found Steam quicker and easier than going to the shops, so the fact it's EA distributing doesn't actually make a difference.

HL2-Insurrection looks prettier than Aftermath anyway. :)

I got HL2 retail because you can only buy it off the steam site with some wierd currency like US Dollars, wtf?

But Valve is such a small company, i think it is possible for EA to consume valve. I bet we will be seeing "challenge everything" before we load up aftermath. But they'll drop EA like they dropped VU once they change what Valve is.

heh. Valve really isnt small mate :P. EA wont be swallowing Valve. they have quite good business sense over there. Privately owned compny so EA can't stage a take over.

Only way for EA to take control of Valve would be to force them to do poor business and then buy them out. This wont work because

1: Valve has the Half life franchise and associated games/mods DoD etc ffs. Cus that's gonna sell badly :P They also have the source engine which they have licensed out to a lot of people and more are lining up.

2: Valve have just roped EA into their profits slightly. Valve does badly EA will also feel an adverse effect. No sense in shooting your self in the foot :P.

There is another reason.

3: Doug Lombardi told Gabe that if EA take over they will replace all the pies with tofu The fat bastard wont let that happen;)
