Day of Defeat: Source

Postby wiggle987 on Mon Jul 25, 2005 12:49 pm

Recent news from dayofdefeat.pexgames.com has revealed that Doug Lombardi from Valve's marketing has announced that the team are headed for a september 1st release date for Day of Defeat: Source

"Next Wednesday the print magazine Gamstar 09/2005 will be in the shops. It features a small preview of Day of Defeat Source including the expected releasedate: September, 1st 2005. On this day the Steam and Shop version should get released. If these information are right, DoD Source must gone gold within the next 2-3 weeks.

UPDATE
DoD.net Forums: Lombardi: "YES. WE HOPE TO HAVE THE GAME AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE TO PLAY BY SEPTEMBER 1."

Keep in mind that nothing is set in stone and that last time Doug Lombardi talked about a release date he was talking about early spring 2005, but we can hope.

I have a question: If you bought the Colldectors Edition, which included the upcoming DOD-S, do you automaticly get to download it of steam, without creditcard numbers and stuff? Because if you did have to go through it...I DON'T HAVE A CREDIT CARD!!!!                        ................... Oh, wait! I know my dad's pin number anyway!

I thought the collectors edition didn't come with DoD:S, just hl:s, hl2 and cs:s. But if it does then you should be able to download it the second it's released.

I'm quite sure it came with DOD-S. If the instant downloading fact is true... YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D Oh, oh by the way, a lot of people were complaining about the DODS player models a while ago. I thought there was nothing wrong with them. Well, are you satisfyed with the new models in the last Steam update? I'm not. They look too ...um... clean. :?

Normal maps basically make models look much higher poly by tricking you into thinking that they are 3d. It's hard for me to explain.

basically, most of the detail on this character is made up of 2d normal map textures, whilst the model itself is about 3000 polygons, but the normal maps make you see the 1,000,000 polygon version if you get me.

I can imagine Valve will (or should) paint some creases in the clothing with normal maps and add some more detail.

The problem is that implimenting somekind of teamwork mechanic would ruin the current gameplay, which most fans like myself are content with.

Trying to implement teamwork within DoD'S general gameplay style would be quite disasterous in my opinion. It's fine the way it is, trying to alter it in anyway would just ruin it. If you're after teamwork, then Battlefield 2 is where you need to be.
