Ingame "Cyberspace" Footage From Dystopia Mod

Postby wiggle987 on Tue Jul 26, 2005 4:13 am

These guys seem to be hogging the spotlight alot lately. Another update on their site with some more gameplay footage showing off the hacker cyberspace mode.

"...The best way for us to explain Cyberspace is by showing you, so we've created a 1 minute 30 second video clip of a Corp decker travelling from one end of Vaccine's network to the other. It includes background music by our very own Bioxeed. You can grab the 36 meg self playing bink from these mirrors..."

You can download the video either from hl2files.com or Moddb. Also you can read the rest of the update at their website: http://www.dystopia-game.com

Phenomenal. Really good stuff. The "every way is down" approach reminds of being an alien in AvP. Suddenly looking forward to this one. :D

not sure what to make of this mod really, it seems like its a little bit of natural selection, a little bit of tron, and a pinch of unreal tournament, what thats a recipe for I am not sure. The maps are nice with the texture lighting etc but I am not sure how well something like this will play. The combat vids I have seen remind me of unreal tournament, but this part I just saw more like ns with the running along walls etc. I guess I'll just have to wait for the beta to find out what its like. I dont see it killing off ns at all, this doesnt have the same appeal imo, but hopefully its something new and fun, probably the most original/professional mod so far for hl2.

I can't really find anything in it that would lead it to be compared with ns. But I'm certainly looking forward to it because let's face it, these guys have put the effort in.

They have indeed put effort in. I've been watching this one a little. At hl2's release, i thought it was going to fail, but now it looks REALLY nice.

I think they said they've been planning even a year or two before Half-life 2 was even release. Can't wait for the release.

Essentially, it looks incredibly well-made, very professional approach, but that doesn't guarantee it'll be phenomenal.

Hi guys. Firstly thanks for the positive comments, knowing that people are eager to check out what we've got going on is really driving the team on towards the release of the demo. While we're still not announcing a release date, I can say that you shouldn't be waiting too much longer now.

One of the biggest compliments we take is that when people first heard about our plans for Dystopia they wrote us off as being yet another mod team with big dreams who wouldn't follow through. We've working on the project for over 2 years now, there's definately been tough times but there's never been any doubt in the team that we'd see Dystopia through to release.

Just touching on the comment about us "competing" with NS... We don't see that we're directly competing with any other mod for a player base. The entire team are hardcore gamers with backgrounds in a huge amount of different games. We've bundled up a lot of the things we've enjoyed in previous games, while also injecting our own unique gameplay ideas. We hope that gamers from any background will find things they love in Dystopia. As long as you enjoy fast paced action you should enjoy Dys.

Via our dual environment system and implant load out systems we know that players will be able to find a niche that suits them. If you're into mastering deep movement systems you're going to love cyberspace. If you like playing support roles like a medic, you'll select the mediplant implant and heal up your team mates in the real world. Like big guns? Go heavy and blast enemies into meaty chunks. Like being sneaky? Choose the stealth implant... The list goes on, each of the 10 implants will suit different playing styles.

Our goal has never been to create a "phenomen". We all got into this project because we wanted to make a game which we loved playing, since no one else seemed to be working on a skillfully deep, high action, fast paced team game. If it goes huge then obviously we'll be very happy, but just picking up a niche crowd of fans who dig Dystopia will be reward enough. Hell, the fun I've had during the last 3 months of closed beta testing has made all the effort worth while.

If you've got any questions feel free to ask here in this comment thread or over on our forums. I'll always endevour to give you an answer.

ps: Orion, I love your avatar and sig!

Ahhh, Fuzzy, you just made me even more hyped up about the release by saying that. I've got ants in my pants. :smt028

EDIT: Heh, and thanks for the compliment. :)

Also, what will it be like mapping for Dystopia? I mean, what with cyberspace and all that, will you be releasing an fgd with the first version?
