Also, what will it be like mapping for Dystopia? I mean, what with cyberspace and all that, will you be releasing an fgd with the first version?
Haha, I should have seen the release date question comming. Being a bunch of guys who are working on Dystopia in our spare time it's impossible for us to give a firm release date until we're almost on top of it. At the moment we've publically announced that we're feature complete and just waiting the completion of a few art assets before we lock down the build. Then we'll enter into an even more intensive closed beta and squish any remaining bugs. Once we've got a super rock stable build we'll release the demo. I'll say that we're talking weeks here, not months.
Mapping for Dystopia is a little more involved than say HL2DM or CS:S, mainly due to the extra entities which are required to handle our unique gameplay features. With that said I'm positive that mappers won't take long to get their heads around it all. We definately will be releasing the fgd, along with a simple example map showing how to set up a jackin terminal, spawn area and objectives. We'll also release the "tube kit" for Cyberspace, which allows mappers to piece a cyber map together much like a scale electrics track.

Not only do I admire your dedication to seeing the mod to release (which precious few mods ever do) but your ethic for making it is very pure and true to the heart of mod-making, and I totally respect you guys for it.
We're definately aware of how fickle and unpredictable the gaming market is. There's no way we would have been able to successfully pitch this game idea to a publisher and create a commercial title. The state of the industry makes it impossible for publishers to "gamble" on complex games which don't have a proven market. What I utterly love about the mod scene is that it allows people to create the game they want to play, release it to other hardcore gamers and test the waters.
Based on the response of our test team and from the positive comments we recieve with every media release I'm very confident that there's a stack of other gamers out there who are sick and tired of world war 2 and "realism" shooters. I think there's a whole lot of people hanging out for a fast action FPS with enough depth to keep them interested for months if not years. Of course I'm bias, but Dystopia fills this niche.
