HL Fallout's Interview With Black Mesa Source

Postby wiggle987 on Sun Aug 07, 2005 3:34 pm

Black Mesa Source the popular total conversion of Half Life 1 to the source engine has recently has an interview with the Hlfallout staff, it makes for quite intereasting reading material.

"HL Fallout: Voice acting was particularly important during Half-Life 1 to give the characters a sense of identity. Have you decided on how to approach this matter, and do you plan to contact the original voice actors about it, or record your own?

Denzil: A few months back we contacted the voice actor behind Barney, G Man and numerous other Half-Life characters and he showed interested in helping out, we have however, not been in contact since as the need for voice recordings is still a low priority for us at the present time.
"

Along with the interview the team have also released two new map screenshots for public opinion. You can read the original article here.

hmm, why would they need the original voice actors back?

From comparing the 2 file types, they are almost identical... they could easily just port the dialogue straight over. I mean obviously if they wanna re-establish the Eli character they need to give him some lines, but other than that i just don't see the point.

they seriously need a few textures artists, cause the maps looks like just another HL2 map with those boring HL2 textures.

What mod have you seen fully done custom textures, bumpmapped and all? very few. Just face the facts that very little HL2 mods will be able to create bumpmap images, its a very hard process (or it used to be, i donno)

som of the levels in nightfall will have 100% costum textures, and bump maps on the ones that need them. And creating bump maps is has easy as apllying a filter to the image(well more then one actually to make a decent job)
I've no sign

Plenty of mods are going for the 100% approach, Insurgency, Hull-Breach (so says Signy) and as Bk said, Nightfall too. Creating textures is very simple when you get the hang of it, just the techniquies that need mastering...
