Dystopia Screenshots Galore

Postby Fuzzy on Tue Aug 09, 2005 12:09 am

With our feature set complete and just a few tid bits of art assets still to be added, Dystopia is now under going furious amounts of play testing. Last night we organised the first ever clan Dystopia match, breaking our testers into two teams which we plan to continue using right through to the release of the demo.

We have previously played pickup games, selecting two captains and having them choose teams. These previous matches allowed us a great insight into the depth of strategy and tactics which Dystopia opens up. So we decided to take it one step further and keep the same groups of guys together to allow them to specialise at certain tasks and roles.

I snapped off a bunch of screenshots during last night's match, which we're proud to share with the public. To see more, check out our media gallery.

Ingame shots are always the best media. :)
and out of all those screenshots I think I only spotted one hl2 texture, but I'm not even sure if that's from hl2. Impressive!

Let me guess, it's the glass window in the seccond shot? I'm positive it is a Half Life 2 texture.....
Anyway, as Wiggle said, ingame media is always the most enjoyable kind! Great work! Keep it up! I can't believe you're not releasing the mod though... it looks like it's finished! :P Good luck!

Well, it looks like they are just trying to weed out as many bugs as possible right now... I CANNOT wait for them to release this mod... I want to play it... right now...

Dont think that last one is a HL2 texture but its based loosely on the combine shield wall I feel.

I hate futuristic games.

But this is something very special, I love it.

Can't wait for the release. Will there be a public alpha/beta at all?

No, quite early on in development we made the decission that we'd run a closed beta and focus having our first release polished up to the standard you'd expect from a professionally developed demo.

The main reason for this was that in the past we've witnessed mods release an early beta which many people check out only to be disapointed and then never check out any future releases. First impressions count so much in the gaming scene, and therefore we wanted our first release to be a very good representation of our aims for the full release of Dystopia.

Secondly to this, a large number our development team have been around in the Australian gaming scene for so long that we could easily pull in enough dedicated and trusted gamers to beta test for us. After all the point of a beta is to get feedback and bug reports from the testers, in a closed test you get more focused testing and more understanding of what "work in progress" means.

With all of this said, as you can see from the screenshots, we're not too far away from releasing the demo. We still aren't announcing a target date, but we have started saying the word "soon" :)
