Half-Life: Blue Shift released on Steam

Postby wiggle987 on Thu Aug 25, 2005 11:37 am

In a very covert steam update today Valve have released Half Life Blueshift to all owners of Half Life today. Half Life Blue Shift is considered a short, but sweet adventure through the Black Mesa Disaster where you play one of the security guards: Barney Calhoun.

"Half-Life: Blue Shift is now playable for anyone that owns the Half-Life Premier Pack, the Half-Life 2 Silver package, or the Half-Life 2 Gold package."

Unfourtinutly people who bought Half Life 2 from the shops will miss out unless they owned Half Life before.

On another note, Valve has also released a small update for Day of Defeat which fixes a join team exploit. As usual, restart steam and download Blue Shift.

Tried it out last night, pretty fun.

A quick but very important side note; the High Definition pack that will update weapon & player models, sounds and other good jazz is scheduled to be released over Steam in a few weeks. This free HD pack should apply to both Blue Shift and Half-Life but Opposing Force as well.

Good times.

It's not quite official, but it should work if you extract it to the Blue Shift folder.

Yeah it's a good substitute until Valve releases the real thing. I liked Blue Shift, it had a good balance of puzzle and action elements to it.

It's about time they released that out! I've been waiting a long time to see it come out on Steam, but I am dissapointed they didn't release the High Definition pack out with it. :/

Heh. I beat it two hours after the release.

Anyway, I found a glitch.

*SPOILER ALERT* HIGHLIGHT TEXT TO READ

After you talk with the dying scientist who tells you to find Dr. Rosenburg, when you go down the stairs, look for the phony wall that led you to the secret elevator. Now smash it! Ha! You can go down the elevator, but you need Dr. Rosenburg to open the door. But, down here there is a lot of extra armour and ammo.

I never had the chance to play it.. I was one of the retards who bought HL for CS - and never gave the mods a second thought.. and I'm sad that it went that way, I missed out on alot.

But I'm here to reconcile my 6th grade mistake.. and give all the mods a fair go.

yea, but just stand and take the damage. It will stop after a while. I guess this is because they use the old engine and not the blue shift engine, since it wasn't as choppy(make's the seintists hop when the elevator goes down) as the first one. Just a guess though.
