QuArK 6.5

Postby Athlete{UK} on Mon Aug 29, 2005 8:37 am

QuArK or "Quake Army Knife" 6.5 the popular mapping tool has just been released.

QuArK is a very viable alternative for source mapping rather then using hammer. Whilst it is mostly a matter of preference QuArK is seen by a lot of people as being far more powerful them Hammer. This of course is entirely dependant on how the mapper sees and uses it.

Below is a small part of the change-log, some screenshots and a few links:

1.New Terrain Modes Toolbar linked to the Info base and documentation detail.
2.Contains three terrain Shape Builder patterns for making surfaces.
3.Converter for other imported terrain such as GenSurf and Nem's Tools.
4.Face Converters for top, bottom or both faces for shape movement together.
5.Adjacent Faces Selector tool for selecting other faces touching a single one.
6.Selector Dialog Input for variations of terrain movement and shaping.
7.Basic Selector allows selections through all normal polys and entities.

I never play maps while making them :?
and if you look at the times i compile, well, thats about once a week? I know ppl say its bad, but if you are a good mapper like i am theres really no need to do it more often :P

What exactly is so different between playing games with Steam running, or using Hammer when Steam is running?

I fail to see why using a world editor without Steam is so much better. I'm not saying it is or isn't, but I'm trying to grasp the logic behind this.

Well it's a good thing for folks like me, for some reason Ntl wont let us have a shared internet connection, so alot of the time I'm not online but I want to map. But without steam I cant map and without an internet connection I cant get onto steam (not even offline mode).

That is pretty weird though. Just spent most of the weekend myself without a working internet connection. First time I used offline mode, worked like a charm.

Have you tried talking to Valve?

also, loading resources is a LOT faster without steam

havent you heard of the massive fps boost you get with a cracked hl2? thats purely because that doesnt have steam and can reach the resources immediately. levels load in seconds, not minutes. imagine what that can do to browsing models or textures
