Nine Half-Life 2 X-Box Screenshots

Postby ShaDoW on Mon Aug 29, 2005 11:01 pm

One of Valve's upcoming titles is the X-Box version of our beloved Half-Life 2. Even though it might lack any multiplayer form such as Counter-Strike: Source or HL 2: Deathmatch, it's still one heck of an adventure if you've missed the PC version.

One of the more obvious enhancements to the PC's counter-part is the improved lighting.

Jeux-France was kind enough to release these nine images to the public.

But if you'd ask me, I'd say they could use some texture resolutions.

Doesn't look as good as the PC Version. :( And I also heard somewhere that Ravenholm is going to be around late noonish instead of night time because the Box can't handle it. I'm not sure, don't listen to me, haha. I'm still buying this, if not renting though.

Stop comparing it to the PC, it looks good for a console.

It does, but personally I wouldn't mind trading off the bloom for increased texture resolutions. In the end, I guess it doesn't matter when you're playing on a TV.

And what is his opinion? I never got arround to reading his rants about them. But he doesn't like them much, right? If so, I aggree with him. Game consoles are just cheap solutions for people that can't afford a PC. You can do WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
more on a PC anyway.

GABE DOES NOT HATE NEXTGEN CONSOLES.

He just said that coding for them would be a whole new ballgame.

Main reason why Gabe Newell doesn't like the next generation of console platforms is because of the hardware underneath. The X-Box 360 for example is powered by a Dual Core CPU. Now in a way, this would be a good thing. As you could i.e have main game code running on one core, physics being processed by the other.

Although, GabeN has a very valid reason why he objects to this technology, as working with this architecture requires a lot of programmers to rewrite and rethink everything they are currently using. That's a big step. Which means a lot of developers won't use the full capabilities of this technology.

The games won't be cheap either. A shame.
