Day Of Defeat: Source Gone Gold!

Postby wiggle987 on Fri Sep 09, 2005 7:35 pm

From Steampowered.com

""Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project. "

DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-Life® 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.
"

Along with that is news that customers without Half-Life 2 Gold or silver packages (that includes people who bought Half-Life 2 retail as well) will be able to pre-order DoD: S for the price of $19.95 next week, also pre-loads will be starting then.

If you don't believe me you can read the news post here.

**UPDATE**

And just to whet your appetite I have three screenshots for you, first two courtesy of ign.com and the third from halflife2.net Enjoy!

It says that people who bought the Gold or Silver packages will get DoD:S for free. If I got HL2 free with my vid card... how do I know if I have a gold or silver package?
There is only one correct answer, mine.

That was bronze, unless you paid the $10 for the upgrade to silver, in which case you'd get DoD:S free.

Well with a news post as descriptive as that it seems more like an official press release.

As for the $20 I'm happy, that's about £13, which if it were to be released in the Uk seperate it would probably be about £20. <3 Steam.

Finaly. I'm so gonna buy this game when it hit the shelfs. Won't be seeing much HDR though.

HDR is the shit. My card can handle it, i doubt my cpu or my whimpy RAM can though. I'm actually really excited about lost coast. I really wish DoD hadn't gone with CS style cursors back before steam... If you played back then there was a stationary crosshair type thing... and then there was a smaller thing that swayed with your steps, indicating how accurate your fire would be while running. It was tight.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall

Thought Lost Coast had to come first? Gabe said that they'd use that to introduce it to people and then put in games like DOD: source.

Strange.

Well we can expect it within the next two or so weeks, remember that Lost Coast is just a tech demo, DoD:S could be compared to a full game.

That I understand, but Gabe said Lost coast would come out first to test the general reaction amongst users. So I gather we can expect that before DOD: S

Wrong. Chris_D, lead editor over at Halflife2.net, got confirmation from Lombardi that Lost Coast will not be released until AFTER DOD:S.

Doesn't that totally miss the point of the Lost Coast then? I thought it was going to be premiering HDRL on Source.

Chris_D's trying to get clarification on why they're releasing LC after DODS.
