DOD: Source begins pre-loading

Postby Blink on Wed Sep 14, 2005 11:33 pm

If you restart Steam you will see that DOD: Source is now available to preload.

For those unaware this means you begin downloading the full but locked game, and upon release date you can purchase the right to unlock it and begin playing it straight away.

Get downloading!

on your mark, get set, pre-load!

Wait, whats teh point of this other than the fact you can get it "right away" if you could just install when you want to play?

I would imagine that DOD:S is a very large DL. If you waited to DL it when it actually becomes available you would be waiting a long time before you could play it. Once it's DLed you will still need to decrypt it which can take a bit. There is definately a large time savings for when you can actually play it.

It's so you can go to school and make fun of your friends who didnt preload who have to wait an hour while they download and you can say in a snooty voice "i am pleighing ze dee oh dee hokai?"

Some people out there, such as me have the privilege to know how to “unlock” the files and play the game.

All it means is that I can just look around and get to know the game so I can kick ass when its released.

Well, we'll be expecting screenshots in an hour to prove your claims of course.

yes i admit, i do brag a bit, but you cant say that you have NEVER ONCE IN YOUR LIFE, bragged.

and yes it is unavailible to the public, but steam is so stupid, being locked it just means is in a zip file, but instead of *.zip its called *.gcf

and than its just simple to get it running with a few command lines.

Good luck playing with missing executables. Because the game is pre-loaded doesn't mean it includes all the files to make it playable.

I know of a way to check out the maps which I'm testing now. Use common sense and you'll realise it too.

...Serpent is pulling your legs.

day of defeat source.gcf, 612 MB, once pre-loaded is encrypted.

You can extract the content but any of the content, including maps and text files, will still be locked.
