Steam News - 16/09/05

Postby wiggle987 on Fri Sep 16, 2005 10:55 pm

News time! In this week's Steam news update Valve goes into a little more detail about the release of Day Of Defeat: Source in preparation for the 26th.

"The preload for Day of Defeat: Source is in full swing now. There is still plenty of time for everyone to pre-load the game before it is made available on September 26th at 3:00 pm PDT. (If you're unsure of what time this is for you locally, you can convert to your local time zone here.)

We're also planning a release for next week that will update the Source engine to the same version used for Day of Defeat: Source. There are a number of small fixes contained in this release that we'll cover in detail when it's closer to release time.
"

Along with the news, Valve have also been kind enough to give us a glimpse at two new player models for Day Of Defeat: Source, these are the Allied Bazooka soldier and the Axis Sniper.

As usual, Restart steam for the update.

They wont be as bad ingame, They are probably the same as CSS hands are in detail. The texture needs some improvement IMO.

:D good to see something from valve

Depends on the lable, if you bought HL2 (I think any package) it comes with all the HL1 mods. So i think you can try to play DOD. if not that means DOD is not available for HL2 packages. (or atleast bronze.)

DoDis the shit. I'd rather see the specialists source though... too bad the specialist people have no interest in making a source version. Be hella bitchy to code i imagine.

I for one loved Day of Defeat, but my only problem is that because there are only 4 maps in the initial relese it might get a tad boring for me, especially because dod_flash is an american map now, it was cool with the brits. : (
Also I'd love to see chemille and charlie, awsome maps tbh.

XD 4 maps, i must have not read it all >< though, that sorta sucks. That means less gameplay for me. Though, CSS came out with about what, 5 - 6 maps (right?) on its first release, so its not much diferent. maps wont take that long for the guys to make.

Now I want to see the new models for CSS. That would be my dream come to life.

Well the release maps aren't too bad, I think Valve chose them mainly because pretty much everyone likes at least one of them. They are dod_donner, dod_flash, dod_anzio (my favourite of the bunch, and should look great on source with 3D skyboxes) and dod_avalanche. The only map I personally don't like of the bunch is donner, and the source version has no rain, which is a negative for me. But reading one of the many trip to Valve offices articles that's popped up recently, it's good to know that Valve intend on releasing more maps and support Day of Defeat: Source like they did Counter-Strike: Source (prays for the Brits to be put back in with dod_caen, another awsome map)

That was one of my favorite maps. Avalanche was good too. Though, do you think somone will put the Patching Wounds mod up? that was a good mod just due to the fact it had some sort of mix between fire arms and DOD (which is good IMO.)
