Day of Defeat: Source Media!

Postby wiggle987 on Wed Sep 21, 2005 3:23 pm

Some increadible new footage (about 14 videos) and several new screenshots released through IGN.com today, and an intereasting article which you can read here

"What might impress people even more than the visuals is the upgrade in sound quality. Gone are the canned sounds of gunfire in the background. All of the explosions and gunfire that you hear will be coming from somewhere in the level. It ricochets off of everything creating a cacophony of gunfire that is really thrilling."

View the article here, the videos here and the screenshots here.

If you're attentive enough you may notice that you can infact hear in one video an MG42 firing in the distance as the player eventually approaches the gunner from the other side of Anzio, some spectacular sounds in those videos.

Thanks to Kolezan for bringing this to my attention!

Beauty.

Love those movies, game looks so great that I'm sure I'll be playing it for a good while.

There goes the good progress on Insurrection, lollin.

Those videos make it look like a WW2 mod for Quake 3. Moving about as if you're on jet propelled fudging roller skates.

Realism is cool. But slow down the players to realistic measures and you've got yourself a whole lot of community whining your ears off.

For realism, I'll play RnL when it's released. I like DODs fast pace for what it is: a fun game.

God, what is it with you people?

It's a game, you either have fingernails and all those tiny details that you actually never look at in-game (on a world model). Or you have a smooth game experience without all those useless resources hogging up the frame rate.

Seriously. It's just never good enough is it?

I was gonna say the same thing, I'm surprised that some people adctually want to sacrifice performance so that the Nazis can have fingernails. I mean come on, are you going to actually walk up to corpses of fallen comrades to admire the increadibly detailed fingernails?!

My point was no about realism, but the blinding speed that gave the impression of beeing a bar of soap in a frying pan. I like fast games, but from waht I saw it just looked a little bit too fast paced. Of course that isn't going to turn me off from the game at all. It's just one of those things that you notice and tend to be rather sceptical of, but eventually come to enjoy. :)

I'm not really laying into your point, more along the lines of minute details that can easily be ignored.

I for one like the fact that the sprint speed seems the same as in Half Life 2, mainly because I hate running round a corner, getting shot then spending about a minuite to get shot around the same corner again!

I finally paid for it. I also just started to play the original. Back when I had computer before this one Dod wasn't released. But since I started to play I am hooked and even more excited for the release.
Their first album was better.
