The game has changed. With the introduction of non stackable regeneration for all alien lifeforms there's no need for DC's as a start chamber now, Movement Chambers are much more versatile. Plus starting/lower key liforms benefit better from Movement Chambers than Defence Chambers as the 1st chamber. A skulk is much more efficient with silence than Carapace or Regeneration.
And you pretty much answered your own question with the "i mean, its mostly used for traveling to other hives rather than the one you start at, so how could it be helpfull at all?" How are you going to get to a growing hive to defend it against attack with Defence Chambers? Run? It'll be dead before you get there. like I said, Movement Chambers > Defence Chambers as 1st chamber.
