My God! Why aren't more people making parallax mapped textures!? I'm going to go make some, that's just too awesome to ignore.

Edit: Are normal maps and height maps the same thing?

Edit(2): nvmd.

Why isn't it used more often or in any Valve games? (clueless about textures)

Parallax will be use in Black Mesa Source. It is also used in some of the 3rd party mods, such as PVKII I think.

Due to the brief outage of the SDK, I decide to try my hand at creating textures again. This is my second ever texture.

Any advice on how to improve it would be much appreciated.

Can't think of anything, depending on what look you're going for,I suggest a little water-stains below the windows(?). Other wise I like it a lot. Make sure you add a normal map, too.

I was thinking I should perhaps remove the strips that come down over the windows to avoid any unnatural shadows.

Once I learn to make a normalmap I will!

It's really very simple, if you use Photoshop, there's a great tutorial on this website showing you how.

I was thinking that too...but a faint, soft shadow beneath them (so you see some shadow on both sides) might turn out ok. Those harsh shadows that are already there will probably have to go though. You should definitely have some shadowing, or it'll look equally unnatural.

I think the copyright message may be a little intrusive.

Ok, I decided to remove the strips entireley, and tried creating a normalmap.

Do you think it needs to be deeper?

Textures much too clean, dirty it up a bit.
Otherwise looks fine, maybe deepen it a LITTLE, don't overdo it.
