Map spotlight

Postby SmOoth on Tue Feb 19, 2008 10:12 pm

It needs frequent updating, without it it's pretty much useless.
We only had 5 spotlights in over a year and I think forest has been on there for almost half a year.
I think there are enough maps being released to change it atleast every 2 or 3 weeks. It doesn't necissarily have to be as amazing as de_forest, but a good map that's only a bit less awesome still deserves some spotlight.

Who's with me?

I say keep it for the very exceptional maps. Given any map a spotlight just because a few weeks has passed just makes the spotlight place seem worthless.

It has to be a exceptional map, that's the point. I haven't seen or been told about any for long time. I think that's less about the strictness of Map Spotlight and more about the quality of maps coming out.

If you see any, by all means tell me.

i agree with both of you.

map spotlight should be for de_wanda or forest or something else amazing. but there should be something else like "map of the week" or something that will change more frequently.

There should be a map spotlight, for stuff like wanda, and then map of the week. Would add a little more flavour to the rotation.

I can't wait for Black Mesa Source!

I've found my stay so far at interlopers quite good, and with a reasonable price.

Although it came out near the same time-frame as DE_Forest so I don't know if that counts but, come on, don't tell me it ain't brilliant: http://www.kevboy.metalsoup.com/LZ_129_Hindenburg.htm

There are alot of maps that deserve place in the spotlight i dont see any reason to keep just one for months.
Check this one for example.

And if it was posted on these forums, rather than somewhere completly different, we would know it actually existed, and would have a chance at the spotlight

Edit: I stand corrected

The map is definately above-average and i dont see a reason not to put it on spotlight...Maybe the currecnt spotlight should be renamed to "hall of fame" because right now its more this than spotlight.
And i dont think its author's fault what happened in the thread. He even contacted valve regarding this issue i dont know what more can be done (except ofcourse some cleaning by moderator).I dont know why people start complaining about stuff that isnt even their property but valve made pretty clear statement - everything that is on the sdk can be used. The only exception was black mesa - they used tons of css models so they asked valve and ofcourse they got the permission to use them.
