'Tis a good idea, but they may just happen too irregularly and infrequently for it to be worthwhile. I'll discuss it with the big man. Try to keep these kind of suggestions etc out of this thread, this is meant to be about the rules

With the release of the Orange Box, are TF2 maps fair game?

According to the rules, every Source game is allowed, so that should include TF2 too. However, the whole point of the map battles is to make a visually great map, and IMO, TF2 graphics can't be compared to Ep2 graphics. Cartoon textures isn't exactly realistic...

Visually great and realistic aren't one and the same... If the mapper bothers to put in the work, I think they can make something equally visually great as anything from Ep2. Especially if they bother to create custom textures etc.

I PM'd Jest@ with a question regarding something similar, and the response (at least the way I understood it) was that only official Valve games are permitted. So Dark Messiah, Sin Episodes etc are no-go's.

Orange Box is fair game.

Just a suggestion, But i think hiding the Names of the mapmaker when voting for the best one might be a good idea, While everyone might thing they are voting equally they might choose one person over another just for the fact that they like him better, So maybe just call them like 1,2,3 or whatever until the voting done then chuck the proper name to the pictures on.

I think it would be a good idea to hide the name of the entrants while voting. There's no real reason you need to know who you're voting for, so keeping it strictly to the images would make it all around more fair.

Like cow said though, there are people who have followed the WIP thread who know which person did what anyway..

Also, and obviously i can't speak for everyone, but i dont judge by name, i judge by images...i'm quite happy to vote for anyone at all if i consider them to have submitted the best entry

The rules state we can't use photo manipulation tools to alter the color etc but can we use the colour correction tool in-game to alter the scene? Just curious.

It's practically the same, the levels tool in Photoshop is exactly the same as the one in the colorcorrectionUI, I just think the point is that you can't edit your final entry with other software than source SDK...

No using any work that you've created before, that has been seen by others. I mean if no-ones seen it then no-one can stop you I guess. Anything that has been shown off to public shouldn't be allowed though.
