Who would give their intellectual property for free? Absurd, no ones work is free and I am certain valve understands that concept as well.

And congrats Heyo good job!

Dude, this rocks for you. You got to be pumped. Grats!

psh, if they asked to add a map of mine to a mod/game, I would be all over that shit! I wouldn't care if I got paid or not, seeing as it is still MY map and I didn't make the map expecting to get paid.

But anyway, grats Heyo, great achievement.

He already gave it out for free when releasing it to the public. Valve is just distributing it to everyone.

Awesome shit mate.

Also in the Steam SDK Terms of Usage it clearly states that everything made with it are the intellectual property of Valve.

so you don't own anything you make in Source SDK.

if you don't buy a license for the Source Engine.

Yes he did, but not commercially, TF2 is a commercial endeavor. Whoever would give a huge company something for free is a sucker or needs their ego stroked.

That's actually not true, it doesn't matter if you made it with valve tools, they have no right or ownership to it, this same debate came up when I was working on the CAMP maps for Day of Defeat, the person who made the mad retains intellectual ownership of it, and this came directly from Valve.

It's not like Valve is making money out of this, it's like saying filefront is making money out of you for hosting and distributing your map.

They are only doing what any other file host does, but on a larger scale i.e. the entire community.

And it seems you need to be brought back to earth if you think valve will pay for your maps, they'll just go "oh well, i bet someone else wont make such a fuss about us distributing their map".

Wrong.

Chrille wrote:Valve paying for maps is the most stupid idea I've heard in a while..

And wrong.

And I quote an individual who has sold and subcontracted to Valve:

"...of course Valve pays for maps, they insist on it, it's a legal issue"

End of story.

And this un-named individual is?

Seriously, I could say that I talked to somebody in Valve to proove a point too, but without a name theres no sign of legitimacy.

And who cares if they get paid or not: they made the map when they WEREN'T getting paid and it didn't change the quality of the map. Please just change the subject.

edit: My point is that you would be a fool to not give your map to Valve, nomatter the price. It is instant portfolio and game design recognition.
