Poly Limit Challenge 1 - Spaceships

Postby RawMeat3000 on Sat Apr 25, 2009 12:14 pm

After 16 speed challenges, even though they were all awesome (except that one), it seems it's time to mix things up. Introducing the poly limit challenges! Hopefully much more challenging, these will run for 5 days instead of the usual 2. So it should end on Thursday, April 30 sometime in the morning GMT, or sometime very late at night Pacific Standard Time. For more time zones refer to this.

The theme for this one will be spaceships, and you will be limited to 1,000 triangles. Props if you can make yours exactly 1,000.

I'll create a proper rules thread for these new challenges in a few hours.

Good luck and happy modeling.

This is my first model battle here. Never had time before but I found myself with a few hours to kill so here I am!

I've always wanted to take on an image as well known as this :)

Tri count: 1000 (exactly)
Time: 1 hour

Hmm I think I'll give this a try. Always good to try and stick to a number. And I now know how to check triangles so ;)

I'll hopefully be entering this one. Going to see what I can come up with now.

Something I may finally enter as the time limit isn't so short.

Tri Count: 986

Time: 1 hour 32 Minutes

Took me longer than expected because I fucked up my Boolean once and had to redo half the ship because the boolean wouldn't allow itself to be discarded.

Habboi, try this out

"Right-click on the viewport label.
Go to Configuration: Statistics tab.
Turn on Triangle Count "

And in light of WoeKitten's entry, I'm going to encourage a little Photoshop skills in this one. Crop and resize your renders and such to make them into one image. You can add some simple borders and text if you want, but absolutely no clone stamp of brush tools to cover up bad normals or anything like that. I want no more than two final images. You can also use colored lights in this challenge. I'm not sure where I stand on the fact that WoeKitten has made his model orange though. I'm leaning towards not allowing it.

And stoop, yes. Put it this way, anything created by an intelligent species to travel through space is fine. Could be an asteroid with engines on it for all I care.

I'm trying so hard to fight this impulse to remake my Spore dickship and submit it.
And don't laugh; the USS Cock 'n Balls really did a number on the Grox.

Hey Rawmeat are we allowed to remove faces that are inside the mesh?

Thanks anyway Rawmeat but

I think I'll just stick to the typical clay render and use default lighting. I assume lighting is part of the time and I'd rather focus on the model.
