Punky's portfolio, finally 'done'

Postby punky on Sat Aug 08, 2009 7:56 pm

Ok, so some of you might know that I've been working on my online portfolio, I made about 8 different designs and styles and got tired of just making these 'test sites' and finally got to the point of making a real portfolio!
It's not perfect at all, since this is practically the first finished site I've ever made, but now I can at least show some of my work to people by just linking to my site ;)
At the moment I'm not going to chance much but I would appreciate some feedback of course.

Scale the image of yourself down. We only see the small version of it, but it still loads the full resolution.

It's a N, not a M, maybe I should re-do it if more people confuse those...

It looks exactly like an "m".

I think I should design your portfolio for you.

For me it looks like an N, but I'll change it then.

The green doesn't work well with the gray background, and I don't understand why people put a Home button on their homepage that links to the homepage. Also, your picture is 2048 x 3072, but you're scaling it down to 400 x 300. Since you're only using the picture in one place, why not just scale it down to 400 x 300 in an image editor and take pity on dialup users? I'm on broadband and it still took a helluva long time to download.

I'll try to change the color scheme a bit, and delete the home button then. I already noticed the slow picture loading, it's because I thought when scaling images in dreamweaver they would also change to that res, not just load a high quality thumb of the image...

You still have the large image of you loading. :?

Make a small version of it. If you want people to be able to enlarge it, then link it to the big picture.

It's a pain to load the contact page and see how the small picture is loaded line by line.

The design itself is nice and efficient for what it is that you do, but I would recommend a different background color - and maybe a nicer looking default font on the main page (Tahoma?).

Also, just like Cypher said - that green doesn't really fit at all. On the front page, yes - but inside the actual portfolio that is surrounded with gray and black, and there's not a lot of green in your other works - so it sticks out. A deep orange or red should look fine?

Punky, you need to fix your homepage. Green on Gray is difficult to see/read, and it's relatively bland. Try and give it a theme that's similar to the rest of your portfolio, as well. Maybe, if you want to keep something like that center... whatever it is ( :P ), you can have a computer (on the monitor would go the links)

(didn't upload the edited site to the ftp yet, so you won't be able to see the changes on the actual site already...)

Eurgh. Put your portfolio on the front page. Splash pages are pointless.
