If you want to define that as a issue, you might claim that, but I don't think it is anything "ill" or "wrong", or even anything you could or should cure.
In a free society, you should be able to transform, as long as you can pay for it.
It is without doubt a courages step to make while still in school. If I'd be in the position, I'd wait until later, like university, because people tend to be way more tolerant, because they have grown out of teenage angst and ignorance.
Personally, I'd react this way: Do it, if you feel like it and are sure you won't regret it. Pretty much like someone who'd get a tattoo. Its permanent. Hehe.
