Aperture Science - Spherical Testing (Alpha)

Something a little different, started messing around with the portal 2 authoring tools and started creating a new puzzle type game. (still an early version), lots more things to implement and a lot more ideas. This version was purely just for testing:

Wow that's really neat and awesome! Quite the concept. I'm anticipating how you plan on incorporating other portal puzzles into it. like pushing cubes and portals. Looks nice so far. Keep it up!

Very interresting, how did you achieve this? Only with hammer, somehow replacing the player with a ball?

And instead of rolling over the button in the start, you should push another ball on it to open. Just an idea.

Also how about sequences where the camera spins 90 degress instead of seeing it from one angle only?

I must know how to do, and I agree you should have had to push something onto the buttons, it's very un-Portal-ish for a button to toggle.

This is pretty cool.

I assume you hook the player into a game_ui and use the outputs to control various phys_* entities that control the ball?

For those who asked, yeah, game_ui, thrusters and a phys prop. getting the camera to work correctly was kinda annoying though.

Still testing and currently playing around with bounce gels, cubes, moving objects and timers. - still a lot more to come

Holy crap! It's Marble Blast!

Seriously, if you don't know what I'm talking about, I highly recommend Googling it. Marble Blast Gold was a really cool PC game, with a fun cartoony art style. Not sure if it's actually around any more, or if there have been sequels made, but it would be a really good "research game" if you're looking for inspiration, or just want to know what's out there as far as "ball-rolling" games go.

This actually looks like a really cool idea, and with the Portal 2 authoring tools, I can imagine you could come up with some very complex courses, with puzzles going way above and beyond Marble Blast. Heck, with enough work, I could even see this becoming a full-fledged mod (though that may not have been your plan for it).

Good luck on the project, it looks really fun.

For those who are interested, spherical testing is now being developed into a portal 2 mod, and is nearing half way through development! As always, all development info is being posted here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/spherical-testing
