Elevator help...

Postby scojer on Sun Feb 12, 2012 6:18 pm

With the old problem solved (see below) I need help with this...
Now, I want to make an elevator that starts going up, and then it crashes down. Anyone know how to tackle that problem?
This is the last thing I need to do on my map other than hang a few pictures and flags, and then it's done!

This is what it looks like in game...

and this is in Hammer.

What is happening? and what causes it?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

I can not see the first image, but judging from the second one in hammer, If those are brushes I can tell you what is likely happening is they are invalid solids. You will likely see it in the compile log or at the very least you will see it if you check the map for errors. You can check the map for errors by going to Alt+P. this will likely bring back the brush errors.

I checked for errors and it said I didn't have any... but I just deleted them and re-made them, in-case they were invalid. Thanks for the help, it seemed to have worked!

Obviously, it is working now so the point is moot, but did you check the compile log to see if it had any issues? Looking at the hammer image, I find it hard to believe that could possible not have any errors.

I did not check the log, I just did alt+p. I usually close out of the log after I close out of the game, so is there a way to see a previous log?

It's in your log file where your map is stored. My guess is that it was some microbrush error, as those are some very small and complex brushes. Please tell me you're func_detailing them.

Also, you making a wolfenstein remake?

I was actually trying to make it swing, so no, I wasn't func_detailing them. I might just have to though, because now that they show up in game, they're still kinda funky...

And kind of. Back when Opposing Force came out, I came up with a story where G-man sent Shephard back in time to do something. I don't really remember exactly, but it was going to be cool.

Now, after the introduction of the combine, I want to send Freeman back in time, and the Combine are trying to change history. I'm not going to copy all of Wolfenstein, just a few areas, and as you can see, it is my re-imagining of those areas. All the textures except for the ceiling, floor, and the fireplace are custom, (Doors, pictures, flags, walls, etc.)
So I'm building the maps first, and then I want to get some Nazi models, and have them fight the combine and stuff. It's a lot, but it's been my dream for years. I'm finally getting around to it.

Use propper if you want to use the complex brush work.

Looks who's a nazi now, telling us what we can and can not talk about...

But seriously, you should definitely take advantage of propper as Phott said. You can create the brushwork larger and scale it down thus giving you more detail. I started using it a while back and I have to say it is a fantastic tool for things that are too detailed/small for brushwork to really work and it is WAY easier than learning to model.

Also, total side not here, but would the warning sign not be "Achtung"?
