Modular Asset tutorial

Postby DonPunch on Thu Mar 07, 2013 2:14 am

Tutorial that shows how to create modular assets very quickly using a texture sheet.

This tutorial covers basic modeling techniques with the purpose of teaching a faster workflow for production environments. It is up to you or your art director to decide the balance of quality/quantity.

This method can be used in any next-gen engine, UDK, Source, Unity, CryTek, and more.

Nice. I never tried to create assets that way. Always made the geometry first and texture afterwards.
But i doubt that would work well with Source till it gets lightmapped props too.

cool tut
I watched a similar tutorial on digital tutors once

only problem I find with this way of doing it is that you can't bake ambient occlusion maps, there is probably no way around it right?

also jang, why did you have to chat him up during the video man?!

UDK is able to calculate SSAO, Cryengine should be able to do that too, not sure if Unity does it by default or if a plug-in is necessary.

yeah I figured it would be no biggie in those engines, basically with source you're fucked tho? considering AO really adds to the model
