PIZZAMAN's WIP thread

PIZZAMAN's WIP thread

Postby PIZZAMANJESUS on Thu May 01, 2014 7:42 pm

Hey there fellas, thought I'd get in on this competition to find a little purpose for my Hammer abilities.

The Idea

Ol' Gordo is teleported into a precarious position of deadly height, and must find his way down to the ground. It isn't long that he is on the ground when, among other things, he must ascend again (descending will also feature). If that weren't enough for the supposed 'free man' , the forests of The Outlands ain't no picnic.
I don't want to elaborate too much, though my plan is much less vague than all that. I should mention that the prominent feature of the map is a hydroelectric dam in a forested gorge/canyon area.

Some unrevealing proof:

I look forward to seeing what everyone else is going to come up with!

Made some progress

And here's the dam (sort of), just to provide some dam proof

Lighting is wonky, but I've shifted my focus to gameplay and NPCs and the general fun factor to slow my fall down the obsessive aesthetic rabbit hole.

Made "some" progress?

*Looks at the first post*
*Looks at the second post*

I'd say that is a bit more than "some" progress.

Got kind of Hammered out at the end of last month, but I've gotten back to work.

I think I lack a point of reference with the before and after. They look like two completely separate areas. :)

I like how complicated the third screenshot looks, with the pipes and partially dismantled ceiling. Adding a bit of plant life (i.e. grass_cluster, ivy overlays) there would really seal it.

Thanks guys! There's more than meets the eyes in that particular area, I'm just not quite ready to show all my cards when it comes to the map as a whole. Though I figured it would be with the spirit of the competition to show some progress. ;)

I will say that I'm going to try my hand at combat for the first time in addition to the puzzling and maneuvering, and up until this point I've only ever really had experience with the latter mapping for Zombie Master way-back-when. But I believe I have a couple aces up my sleeve.

Unfortunately (for the map) a combination of inadequate planning and a large dose of real life lately stalled my efforts, which is kind of a shame because I had a few cool sequences planned out. That's just how the first 3,000 hours of Hammer go from what I know though so I'm alright with it.

It was some of the best experience I've gained thus far, my next endeavor will not disappoint. I may post a few screenshots in this thread when I get around to compiling in the next couple days.

Are you giving up on this map? You should finish it off regardless! Or at least release what you have.
