That was just the first post of this thread. Pretty clever actually.

To me, Interlopers is a Half-Life community. I would like to keep it that way.

Make 'em separate contests.

Im for including UDK without adding a new poll. People should judge how much of an advantage udk gives by themselves and in the end its all about the atmosphere, which to archieve requires skill. UDK might be in the better spot when it comes to graphics but people are gonna give source a little bonus anyway.

Unfortunately most people fail at being subjective. Its the issue I have with all these contests, they are voted by random people with no solid rules as to how to weight votes.

fortunately, this is just a friendly competition without any meaning other than to learn and have fun while you are at it
so the votes don't have to be super serial. :)

These contests are really just an excuse to create content. Trying to exclude the most popular engine from being used seems a bit silly to me.

I think everything that can be said has already been said. Some of you are just being stubborn now. If it makes you feel better just allowing the Unreal engine doesn't mean anyone will enter using it.

If that's the case there is absolutely no excuse to excuse UDK from the contests.

Of course include the UDK to the site in general... why not? We do need to evolve as the industry evolves. Its not like anyone is saying we should drop Source from the menu.

Now, as far as map battles, you can have battles that require each mapper use the same engine to work with (Source/Unreal Battles). These battles would be about judging the mapper's merit and creativity in said engine.

And you can also have battles where Any Engine Goes (AEG(?) Battles), where each mapper has the "which engine can I better create this in" decision to make. In other words, a decision based off the battle's topic and their skill with all valid engines.

It really depends on the type of battle you want to have, I'd say. So why the argument? Can't we all just... get along?
(and of course move on/improve as a community)
The inspiration as to why I'm here: Adam Foster; Minerva. Great job man.

Yes, but for the sake of not making Source mappers cry: In seperate battles.

Looks at header... looks at thread title... looks at header...

Kind of obvious...

But really they should be different battles, then let the two winners go head to head and see who wins. That would be the best of both worlds.

I think this is a really hard question because it affects what the site is supposed to be about. From a purely technological standpoint I say "why not?" What really matters, at least to me when I'm trying to decide who to vote for, is composition, lighting, ideas, and USE of assets.
