This tutorial is going to go through with you on how to create flares, similar to the ones seen in nova prospekt on the story mode.
Creating the Flare
The first part about creating the flare is the entity itself, select env_flare from your point based drop down list and place one where you want your flare to burn. Open up the properties menu and here the only really important variable you can change is the duration, also if you note, in the flags you can set the flare to burn for infinite. Now you have yourself a basic flare, but were gonna add more to it, tweak the properties how you want and move on.
A Touch of Detail
Right, now you have your flare, select a light from the point based drop down list, place it right on your env_flare and set it's brightness too 174 0 0 120. Now you have a flare with a cool glow, but there is one last entity, the sound. Select ambient_generic from the point based drop down list and place this on your flare with your light. Open up the properties of your ambient_generic and set the sound name to weapons/flaregun/burn.wav. Finally, click on the flags tab on the ambient_generic and uncheck Start Silent and NOT looped.
Thats it. Compile and test.
