Another update.

I'm just wondering though, I'm basing it of THIS, but I wish to add some green around it, like trees. It doesn't change the surroundings majorly, but the change is very much noticable. Is this allowed?

I'm a little confused, because what you mean left is probably right. :P But yeah, I thought something like a tower/building there. Dunno if it would actually fit though, I'm thinking of making it more into a park thingy if it's okay to change that much.

Not... really interested in this map battle. As my old teacher Larry Santaw said "If you want something that looks like real life go take a picture, 3D is meant to create things the viewer has never seen before."

If I can find something really...different though I may give it a shot.
It's quite simple really. I want to be a professional level designer. I want this to be my job.

Yeah, it was pretty hard to find something decent. I however, was lucky enough to stumble across THIS weird shiny building in the middle of nowhere (AKA Alaska). At first I though it was some kind of plastic sheets covering the building, maybe it was related to the construction site next to it, but further inspections revealed that it is in fact a curved, shiny building. If I'm able to, I will map that. Don't know how the hell I'm gonna recreate that reflective effect though.

I'm not in charge here, but I can't see why not. Clearly, you're not mapping that particular streetview because of the beautiful surroundings, but because of the cool looking house. As Jest@ said:

Jest@ wrote:I'll permit some flexibility with this. For a start, you don't have to have your in-game camera position the same as Google's: you can elevate it, move it over to the sidewalk, etc. The aim isn't to recreate exactly what you see in streetview; just the place you've picked, in a recognizable form. You can also do things like change from day to night, etc, swap out some buildings, grunge up a nice neighbourhood a bit, do some imaginary urban redevelopment...etc.

That house is the obvious focal point of your streetview, and thus, your map will be in "a recongizable form" no matter where the house is. But this is just my opinion, it's Jest@'s call.

I've been looking around google streetview and probably because I'm from Europe, and I've travelled quite a bit, I went looking at some places I've been and these seem quite nice to do:
Paris, France:
http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s ... 2654331345

Firenze (Florence), Italia:
http://maps.google.nl/?ie=UTF8&layer=c& ... 12109&z=14

http://maps.google.nl/?ie=UTF8&layer=c& ... 12109&z=14

http://maps.google.nl/?ie=UTF8&layer=c& ... 78027&z=16

The suggestions I've seen so far seem very uninspiring. This is obviously a matter of taste and personal preference, so do not take that personal in any way. If you like the ones I've shown here, feel free to pick any. If you want me to point out more places like this, just holler.

And as you can see, the Paris shot is Notre Dame from behind ;) , so very bombastic, Florence is narrow, confined. Obviously there's more to both cities, but just to give you an idea in whatever way you want to go with your entry.

EDIT: here's something I found in rural France, seems nice as a scene...

Damn, 904 just posted my choice ... I am making this bridge in Firenze, Italy. With the buildings on it. I will post a WIP tomorrow as a prove. I am already working on it since the start of the battle. Just so that nobody else makes the same

This is the perspective I am working from, btw:
