Hey there, new to interlopers. Was interested in the last contest, trying this one to use later with my l4d campaign.

The reference street.

Hoping to fit the Cathedral of Learning in the background at some point.

What game are you using? I ask because some have better foliage than the others. I'd love to see big, green trees over that street.

Episode 2. However, I considered the pine trees a little out place in the city.

I'm sure one of them will fit in your map;

PaulH wrote:Jenkins i think it would look better if you replaced those white trees with 2d planes with tree textures applied to them, this way the orange fog you have applied to the scene will actually blend with the trees and they won't stand out in the scene as looking so white. Just a thought...

Cheers Paul :D

Yeah those trees are the "treecard" models from hl2 and have no actual mesh that's why they look white because the fog is actually white and i have it set to "Fog blend: yes" :-)

Going to revise alot today, make ambient lighting alot stronger so smaller details stand out more etc.

Thanks for suggestion :D

Thanks.
Yeah, the bridge arches will come down a few units later. They are too high now.

You may be bound to converting it for deathmatch or something after you're finished, that would be an awesome multiplayer map.

Kinda a late tip, but this could be useful for someone who uses street-view a lot for references and ideas; architecture near bays/harbors/water (that is not in an industrial setting) tends to be more elaborate but usually not as detailed.

To those who are interested; the theory behind this is that towns used to start near bays and what not for boat (trade) access and that would help the local economy and allow a town to grow faster. Because of that, the closer to the water, the older the architecture, which is usually considered to be more interesting. In addition to that, immigrants tend to settle right off the boat and near water, or at least that's how it worked before air-travel was widely available, and because of this places near the water can have a more foreign and mixed-culture flavor. Makes sense to me anyways.

I'm not going to have time to finish this one, so I'll have to withdraw. When I have the time, I might use Street View to do another scene for fun.

Good luck to everyone that's left.

I've started again. If I can get it done before time runs out, I'll enter it.
