They are all great, but the Colosseum was far superior to the others.

Cant believe you peoples, The_Watcher obviously put shit loads of work into his, just missing a 3d sky and it woulda pwned, but the effort is crazt, with alll the brushwork and stuff. I defenetly voted for Alexandria.

Im sure thats true, but its exactly that kind of effort which if included would have pushed him to the finish if only he had done it ;)

voted colloseum as it is the most difficult to make. i liked how jakeparleys looked but the colloseum is more complex. the watcher has some serious work in it just too bad the ground was lack luster and no 3d box. and the some of the textures on it werent beleivable. overall this is proally one of the best design section efforts yet.

Don't forget, this is the first time I joined a mapping contest and made a contest map. Most of the lighthouse and palisade textures were custom, and weren't bump mapped, etc. The displacements looked smooth in hammer, and unusual (but good looking) cracks appeared on them in game. The map took about 3 hours to compile in itself, and something like the 3D skybox at first would of made it take even longer. I might still improve this map, even though its only purpose was this contest. I could put in a 3D skybox, HDR, better displacements, some small details (waves on the shorelines, the lighthouse's bonfire beacon).

Well, I'm still proud of what I've done. Hopefully I will improve and be able to work faster next time. :wink:

PS: Like most of you, I have things that take higher priority than this map, and that is what made the contest's 2 weeks even shorter.

alexandria had alot of brushwork and was quite large, but then misses the final coat of polish thatmakes it shine

colloseum was very true to life and very well made but it seems more to me one well made 'block' repeated

the great wall had a beautiful skybox, just the right amount of hdr and the wall had a very natural curve to it. as much as I think other entries should be given a chance - grat wall wins it in my opinion... just

I'm not saying your Colloseum is ugly, WoeKitten, but omg you don't even come close to the completeness of Jake.

Btw, Jake, any chance you could make it playable?

Aye fair point... like I said I had given up on the project as incomplete because I didn't have time to do a complete map... all I had time to do was jam a tree on the side, compile with hdr and then release :D
