If Blink is up for a programming challenge, I might enjoy the ability to link specific posts in a thread or the ability to comment in a thread without bumping it to the "Forums Latest" panel on the home page.

1. a Shoutbox on the main page
2. have all registered members able to open a personal blog and have a list on the main page showing the current discussed blog headers
3. +1 added
4. I also agree with the Map Spotlight having to update more often
5. I think ads on the sides would be bad / unless the whole forum is nudged to the side the ads appear on the opposing side.

We got a chat room on Steam.

Valar wrote:2. have all registered members able to open a personal blog and have a list on the main page showing the current discussed blog headers

Maybe.

Valar wrote:3. +1 added

No, I can't see how it would be useful. The "+1" system just get abused.

Valar wrote:4. I also agree with the Map Spotlight having to update more often

Indeed it does.

I prefer them at the top and/or bottom.

a donation option, perhaps? 20$ (or even 40$) a year to turn ads off when i'm logged in doesn't sound bad at all.
i had fun once, and it was awful.

Steamchat is on steam. Can't be accessed via phone.
And how would +1 be spammed?

I'd say look to the 'new' 3dtotal.com as what not to do, and polycount.com or something like yafaray.org as what you should do. The redesigned 3dTotal website makes it much more cluttered and (at least, I feel) disorganized. The yafaray website has a nice balance of text and images, and is a very straight-forward interface. Same with polycount.

No, polycount is terrible. Too wide, white text is always hard to read. It's confusing.

You got me there, maybe a poll is needed. So we can see how many people would use it.

Well, maybe I am thinking of a different kind of system. Could you explain how it would work?

Trust me, you do not want a steam-like chatroom put on the home page, you just don't.

Only one forum I've frequented had a chatbox. Seemed to work then.

I suggested a Shoutbox not a steam-like chatroom.

Unless you have a very, VERY strict admin on there 24/7 it wouldn't be much different from steam chat. Plus if it's for mapping questions you'd only have one to four a week really, and even then a new thread would be fine and easy for anyone with the same problem to find, because no one would go through a chat history, even if it's saved, to find their problem, they will just post a new thread or ask in the chat again. Most of the stuff suggested here seems unneeded and clutter-some, I like this forum because it's simple and clean and most of all, it doesn't look like a forum staring at you when you come here, it's news and a little side bar of recent forum posts, I never need to go to the 'forum' tab. It's always been a tutorial and news site to me, with a nice sized community with nice people to help when needed. Though a night mode would be nice. :P

I'm not a fan of shoutboxes. I don't really think it's really necessary for interlopers.
