Bioshock: The movie!

Postby Wills on Fri May 09, 2008 7:19 am

Some of you may have heard about it already, but the movie adaptation of Bioshock is on it's way, and thank god they didn't let Uwe Boll loose on it!!

Gore Verbinski will be directing (Pirates of the Carribbean), and personally I'm pretty happy about that, although Pirates weren't the greatest films ever made, he did an awesome job with a lot of elements, particularly the visual style and special fx.

I'm quite looking forward to this! Could be entertaining!

I can't see bioshock making a very good movie without alot of changes and work. Going to need a new story and a fucking good script me thinks.

Meh.

Won't save it from what ruined every game-adaptation so far: What's making a good game isn't the same as what's making a good movie. The fun thing about games is that you have complete freedom within the world that is presented. In a movie you're set to follow one character on one, fixed path. Game stories aren't made to be told linearly.

I dunno, it could turn out interesting, at least as long Uwe Boll isn't involved :D

Maybe if I had actually played Bioshock, I'd be able to discuss this further..

Bioshock movie? The game was pretty fucking cool, but a movie? Im not feeling this one. After the Resident Evil movies (which had nothing to do with the game storyline outside of the zombies....), i think movies based on games are a complete and utter Fail. I hope they can prove me wrong.

It was done by the guy who did pirates of the Caribbean, well, the last one had some of THE BEST effects i've ever seen. Looks like this may be one of the first good adaptions :D

No.
Just no.
I'll keep that mentality, till I hear further progress of it.

I think the reason most videogame to film adaptations are shit is because they always tag a pretty rubbish director onto it and give it a low budget, im interested to see what they do with Bioshock and Halo given that they have decent directors and producers signed on and quite a lot of money to put into the projects.

Id like to see doom, half-life or system shock(1+2) being turned into a movie, but i reckon they would fail. a lot, even more than doom the movie has. the movie wasnt even about hell, cmon, thats not doom at all.

Well, if done properly it could work. We wont know til we see trailerz.

Also, I kind of enjoyed Resident Evil... but hey I like my mindless splatter movie now and then.

Watching the trailer for City of Ember, the set design actually made Bioshock pop into my mind, and made the idea of a movie about Rapture and it's denizens seem very exciting. I think Verbinski can pull it off if he is willing to go dark enough and flesh out the mythos and mise en scene of Rapture, not sugar it up to reach a (supposedly) wider audience.

On a side note, who would everybody want to see cast for the roles?

Jack:
Barry Pepper, Casey Affleck Daniel Craig, or Christian Bale

Ryan:
William Hurt, Tim Curry, Jeremy Irons

Atlas:
Gerard Butler (not only scottish, but would be scary as hell pumped with plasmids)
