Renewing my mapping efforts

Postby neoviper on Tue Dec 07, 2010 1:46 pm

I have wanted to make maps/mods for a while now, and have every once and then given it a shot, but have never really been able to hit my stride, until a week or so ago. Now I've got a map, which aside from it still being all dev textured, the enemies having no ai, incredibly short, and no fun, actually works! Decided to create an account to get a bit more active in the modding community, and to be able to ask for help if when I need it. So hi everyone!

Hey, I also just made a map like that after years of making random unfinished maps.

I am currently working on a map that works so far. Though, my mapping method is different.. I texture, script and place props while I map.

Anyways, welcome to Interlopers and back to the mapping world.
Have a question related to modding or something I posted? Something that needs staff attention? I haven't been active lately, but feel free to PM me or message me on Steam(link below)

I wish I could start mapping again, but I have no ideas.

Believe it or not you actually managed to do something most of us dont. That is finish a map all in dev textures. It took years before i started doing that and it actually helped me map a lot faster...

Anywho, Welcome...

This is exactly what I've been doing, it is immensely helpful having something that I can actually see it becoming a better map with more work.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, it is much appreciated.

Eh, i always map doing textures and props as i go along. I go room by room, hall by hall. Never do i use dev textures.. or.. i rarely use them. Any ways welcome!

For reals, ever watched Behind Enemy Lines, the one Owen Wilson was in? There's like a soviet mall in the middle of a skirmish that looked really cool to base something off of... but sorry its not in outer space lol

Back on topic, I only recently started trying to use the dev texture way; its really hard for me to get a sense of depth perception using a lot of the same textures though.
On the other hand, I progress making the actual map faster, thus I don't get bored as quickly with the map/idea.
The inspiration as to why I'm here: Adam Foster; Minerva. Great job man.
